Communicates details of situation and location. Additionally, Emergency Dispatcher enters unit response details into a database. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Dispatcher works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     Summary

    Dispatches oil and water trucks to service assignments and relays communications to crews and other field personnel by performing the following duties.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

    • Receives telephone requests for services from customers and relays information to crews and field personnel.
    • Dispatches drivers/crews to servicing assignments.
    • Assigns vehicles according to factors such as length and purpose of trip, freight or other requirements, and preference of customer.
    • Issues keys, record sheets, and credentials to drivers.
    • Records time of departure, destination, cargo, and expected time of return.
    • Follow-up with Drivers and Crew to ensure successful and timely arrival. Investigates overdue vehicles.
    • Directs activities of drivers by two-way radio.
    • Confers with customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed, or other issues
    • Maintains record of mileage, fuel used, repairs made, and other expenses.
    • Establishes service or delivery routes.
    • Prepares time reports and other records.
    • Confers with customer regarding problems and outlines types of services available.
    • Computes quantities of materials required and quotes prices for services.
    • Refers customer inquiries regarding production problems or available services to sales personnel.
    • Compiles list of available vehicles.
    • Issues equipment to drivers.
    • Assigns helpers to drivers.

    Education and/or Experience

    Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    Reasoning Ability

    Computer Skills

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an intermediate computer knowledge and skills (Microsoft Office Suite)

    Type of Violations Defined:

    • Type A: Includes but not limited to, DWI, DUI, OUI, refusing a substance test and charges of reckless driving, manslaughter, hit & run, eluding police, any felony, drag racing, having or driving with a suspended license.
    • Type B: Includes all vehicle accidents regardless of fault.
    • Type C: Includes all moving violations not in Types A or B such as; speeding, improper lane change, failure to yield, running stop lights or signs.
    • Type D: Included non-moving violations such as illegal parking, equipment violations, obstructing traffic, failure to display registration or driver’s license.
