Emergency Medical Technician responds to emergency calls for medical assistance, assesses the situation, obtains a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and provides emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital. Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Being an Emergency Medical Technician communicates with the medical care facility receiving the patient about the patient's condition, status, and arrival time. May require registry in NREMT. Additionally, Emergency Medical Technician requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Medical Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Position Summary: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) responds to emergency and non-emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate medical care to ill or injured patients. The employee is responsible for the safe transportation of patients to and/or from medical facilities.


    Position Responsibilities:

    • Responds to emergency calls, provides basic life support, and administers emergency medical care.
    • Responds to non-emergency calls, such as requests to transport patients from hospitals to their homes or from a local medical facility to specialized medical center.
    • Operate ambulances, emergency vehicles and equipment safety, efficiently, and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the Company.
    • Has a thorough knowledge of the street, highway and addressing system in which he or she will be working.
    • Understands all applicable legal, moral and ethical issues surrounding emergency medical service.
    • Functions within the scope of care as defined by state, regional, and local regulatory agencies.
    • Ensures that the ambulance is clean, fully inspected and ready for the next transport.
    • Prepares records/reports related to patient transportation and medical care.
    • Delivers polite, compassionate care to all patients regardless of the patient's race, age, sex, religion, national origin or ability to pay.
    • Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with other emergency service workers, patients, families, hospital and facility staff and other cooperating agencies.
    • Demonstrates a through knowledge of safety procedures.
    • Performs in a calm, resourceful manner in emergency situations.
    • Maintains valid licensures and certifications through continuing education requirements.
    • Perform station duties as assigned.
    • Other duties as required.

    Requirements

    Position Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Emergency Medical Technician certification as defined by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services.
    • Valid NC Driver's License and excellent driving record.
    • Ability to cultivate effective working relationship with a broad range of people and follow employees.
    • Solid computer skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
