Summary
The Employee Relations Manager is responsible for providing comprehensive services for both employees and managers regarding the following policies and programs: progressive discipline, terminations, employee assistance (EAP), employee discounts, employee recognition, employee engagement, performance management, unemployment insurance, unlawful workplace harassment and/or violence. Provide consultative advice/guidance to managers with the development/issuance of appropriate communications regarding performance expectations and feedback, including corrective actions. Conduct internal investigations, serve as an advisor to all parties involved in the grievance and conflict resolution process. Provide leadership and management in the delivery of payroll and benefits services. Manage operations to ensure continuous effective services with a responsive, innovative, performance-based, and accountable customer focus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Counsel and advise managers in interpreting and applying policies and procedures to resolve issues related to payroll, benefits, disciplinary action, and conflict resolution ensuring a fair and consistent approach to people management practice while minimizing risk and maintaining the reputation of the organization
- Provide non-routine policy consultation, guidance, and interpretation for employees and managers
- Manage the investigative process for internal complaints of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other high-risk employment issues. Actively investigate internal complaints in which leadership is the subject and propose appropriate actions
- Monitor the effective implementation of HR processes and report on their effectiveness. Develop systems, including the use of appropriate technology and the production of management information, to ensure practices and procedures are monitored, developed, and controlled as appropriate
- Ensure services are in compliance with, state and federal regulatory requirements and laws. Follow privacy regulations and maintain confidentiality as required. Monitor and participate in HR policy development
- Manage the performance management program and processes. Provide guidance to managers and leaders to ensure compliance with documentation
- Analyze employee relations trends, provide periodic detailed reports, and propose methods to improve problematic trends after careful research as well
- Provide people management coaching to managers and contribute to the development of managers’ skills
- Execution of employee engagement activities within areas of responsibility
- Support HR services delivery of people related matters
- Oversee individual and companywide payroll actions and inputs
- Manage employee services team and job results by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, counseling and disciplining, and planning, monitoring, and appraising performance
Education / Experience
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a similar field is required for this job. Master’s Degree preferred.
- 7 years of HR Generalist experience with employee relations
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
- Conflict resolution and mediation experience required
- Certified EEO Investigator
- Experience in policy writing and process mapping for Human Resources
- Strong communication skills to increase employee satisfaction and answer complex workplace questions.
- Perform effectively on their own with minimal supervision.
- Experience as a senior-level HR Professional preferred (SHRM)
Working Conditions
Works in an office environment. May require frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and prolonged sitting. May require regular lifting usually not exceeding 20 lbs.
