Senior Employee Relations Advisor

    This position is partially remote, with onsite work in Lebanon N.H. 

     

    The Senior Advisor provides consultation/guidance to leaders and employees in the resolution of complex and/or highly sensitive employee relations issues, including unusual and high-risk workplace situations. Incumbent analyzes, investigates and guides resolution to minimize legal risk, enable efficient operations, and promote the a respectful workplace culture (e.g., guidance on employment law; investigations of privacy; disruptive conduct or violations of EEO policies; Code of Ethical conduct violations; termination decisions; workforce reorganization and reductions; concerted activity).

    Responsibilities

  • Provides subject matter expertise on employee relations issues, employment laws, and HR best practice, including for particular professional populations (e.g., issues unique to providers, nurses, entry level, non-provider professional staff). Offers accurate and detailed analysis of issues and guidance based on interpretation of policy, procedure, regulatory requirements and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Leads development, revision, implementation and administration of Employee Relations and Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Builds and sustains relationships with employees at all levels of highly-matrixed organization.
  • Direct and independent management of caseload of complex employee relations matters from across the DH system,
  • Guides the corrective action appeal process.
  • Facilitates conflict resolution through direct mediation and/or employee coaching.
  • Conducts workplace investigations into matters involving potential violation of EEO policies, privacy, disruptive conduct, drug diversion, Code of Ethical Conduct and other matters as Responsible for issuing findings and recommending resolution activities or strategies in accordance with D-H policies, state and federal laws, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Extensive high-level coordination and collaboration with various related entities such as Office of General Counsel, Risk Management and Medical Staffing Office, Graduate Medical Education, and external counsel.
  • Develop and deliver training to a wide audience of employees across the system.
  • Uses Employee Relations analytics to inform organizational best practice, innovation and process Uses knowledge of institutional risks to identify employee relations areas for training and/or intervention and lead development of training on employee relations topics.
  • Provides HR expertise on production of personnel files.
  • Monitors legislative and regulatory development for employee relations and disseminate information and updates as appropriate throughout DH.
  • Partners with other members of HR or the organization to lead organizational initiatives impacting employee relations issues.
  • Provides guidance on issues related to fitness for duty investigations and questions.
  • Provides guidance to other areas of HR in compliance with employment.
  • Provides analysis and guidance on decisions whether to contest award of unemployment benefits and provide representation in unemployment benefits and provide representation in unemployment hearings.
  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Business or Human Resources, etc.) and five (5) years of applicable experience required.
    • Master’s degree or JD preferred.
    • Ability to demonstrate excellent judgment and have complete understanding of all personnel policies and procedures in order to assess/analyze the situation and inform management of options and recommendations.
    • Excellent reasoning and problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
    • Excellent knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws.
    • Demonstrated track record of effective influencing and senior members of leadership.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Experience in unionized environment desirable
    • Ability to explore alternatives to existing services and identify opportunities to improve policies, procedures and practices.
    • Ability to relate well to all levels of organization and work in a matrix environment.
    • Ability to effectively build and sustain strong client partnerships with trust and credibility.
    • Ability to inspire confidence and calm in face of difficult situations.
    • Ability to identify and analyze trends from a variety of data sources.
    • Ability to work in a face-paced, geographically disparate environment with a sense of drive and urgency, while balancing multiple priorities.
    • Ability to use technology to improve work flow.
    • Drive to different locations as needed.
