Energy Dispatch Director directs the real-time operations of energy dispatch centers. Responsible for ongoing transmission and distribution of energy. Being an Energy Dispatch Director aware of generation expectations and is responsible for minimizing risk and maximizing efficiency and economy. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Energy Dispatch Director demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Typically reports to a top management. The Energy Dispatch Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Energy Dispatch Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     AECOM's Energy Business Unit houses three specialised practices — nuclear, renewables, and transmission & distribution. Each practice plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy, offering innovative solutions that balance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. 

    We are looking for energy professionals with varying areas of expertise/experience to join our rapidly expanding renewable energy team. You will be based in our HUB offices within easy reach of either Edinburgh, Glasgow, or Bristol, working to a flexible hybrid approach.

    Job Description

    What your new role will entail:

    AECOM are looking for an Associate Director, Renewable Energy to join our rapidly expanding renewable energy team. You will be responsible for undertaking a technical role on projects within our energy business; typically, our projects are associated with the generation, storage, transmission and distribution of energy both in the UK and Ireland and countries throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

    Projects include all stages of design from feasibility to detailed design and site construction supervision both Republic of Ireland and internationally. Our clients are a mix between large energy utility generators to private developers.

    • Liaise with clients, manage project work on a day-to-day basis and ensure that the work is delivered within the agreed timescale and budgets.
    • Co-ordinate multi-disciplinary design of renewable energy infrastructure.
    • Respond to technical queries raised by the Site Team.
    • Act as lead verifier on reports including technical feasibility studies and design reports (depending on core engineering discipline)
    • Direct junior members of staff and mentor graduate engineers.

    Qualifications

    Here’s what we will need from you:

    Qualifications:

    • BEng (Hons) degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical or Mechanical or Environmental)
    • Chartered status or actively working towards chartership

    Essential requirements:

    This role, with a strong technical focus, requires candidates to have essential experience in the energy sector, specifically in renewable energy systems, and demonstrate a high degree of technical competency.

    Preferred knowledge:

    Candidates with general engineering experience (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Environmental) within the energy market would be preferable, with experience to include the following:

    • Hydroelectric design – both run of river and pumped storage.Onshore wind – ideally with recent onsite experience, including projects with turbines >180m tip height.
    • Offshore wind.
    • Solar PV.
    • Green hydrogen.
