Engineering Director plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities and projects within an organization. Ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established policies and objectives. Being an Engineering Director utilizes best practice engineering methods and provides expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives. Incorporates components, materials, and tools that result in cost-effective and quality output. Additionally, Engineering Director manages overall engineering budget and costs. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline. Typically reports to top management. The Engineering Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Engineering Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     2. Traffic Operations and Transportation Planning:
      • Address traffic problems and implement solutions to enhance traffic flow and safety, including pedestrians and cyclists.
      • Collaborate with transportation planners to optimize city transit and connectivity.
    3. Stakeholder Engagement:
      • Liaise with multiple stakeholders including the Texas Department of Transportation, local residents, business owners, and other governmental entities.
      • Foster strong relationships and effectively communicate project impacts and plans.
    4. Presentation and Reporting:
      • Provide comprehensive presentations to City Management and City Council regarding engineering projects, progress, and challenges.
      • Prepare and deliver reports on infrastructure status, project completions, and future plans.
    5. Budget Management:
      • Oversee the engineering department's budget, ensuring effective allocation and management of funds.
      • Ensure projects are completed within budget constraints and identify opportunities for cost savings.
    6. Team Leadership and Development:
      • Lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
      • Coordinate with other department heads to ensure interdepartmental collaboration and efficiency.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
    • Extensive experience in the maintenance and management of street and drainage infrastructure.
    • Proven track record in solving complex traffic and transportation problems.
    • Demonstrated ability in engaging and managing multiple stakeholders.
    • Strong experience in presenting to city management and council.
    • Proficient in municipal budget management.
    • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
    • Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to city infrastructure and planning.
