Engineering Director plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities and projects within an organization. Ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established policies and objectives. Being an Engineering Director utilizes best practice engineering methods and provides expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives. Incorporates components, materials, and tools that result in cost-effective and quality output. Additionally, Engineering Director manages overall engineering budget and costs. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline. Typically reports to top management. The Engineering Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Engineering Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide administrative oversight to the hospitals of South Texas Health System’s Engineering Departments and Safety Programs. Responsible for the administration and direction of the Engineering program for all hospital facilities. Responsible for the development, implementation & monitoring of the Safety Program. Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and controls the operations of the Engineering, Maintenance and Grounds departments. May serve as the hospital Safety Officer. Maintains compliance with applicable regulatory agency requirements, including; The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State and Local agencies, The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), etc. Manages staff and contractors to adequately to ensure and maintain the efficient and safe operation of all hospital buildings. Plans, predicts, maintains and repairs building and equipment. Utilizes energy management and tracking tools in order to maintain efficient utility operations. Develops and manages operating and capital budgets.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum of ten years supervisory experience in maintenance management or facility engineering.
2. Minimum of three years in a multi-facility/Health System Facility Management experience required.
3. Experienced in performing facility physical surveys and conducting building evaluations for NFPA
compliance standards.
4. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
5. Knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, Joint Commission and CMS standards, OSHA, EPA and state and local codes and standards.
6. Experience or working knowledge in all aspects of building trades, including HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry.
7. Previous project management experience.
8. Intermediate level computer experience. Including Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook. Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and Building Management Systems.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE:
1. Certification in a technical trade or field related to facility maintenance and/or engineering or Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
2. Current Certified Healthcare Facility Manager certification preferred.
3. Valid driver’s license in State of Texas is required.
