Enterprise Architecture Director directs the architectural design, development, and deployment of an organization's overall IT systems. Leads the strategy, management, and implementation of the systems architecture function. Being a Enterprise Architecture Director ensures that systems are designed to consider functional requirements, scalability, and security. Evaluates system solutions based on user needs, cost, and required integration with existing applications, systems, or platforms. Additionally, Enterprise Architecture Director identifies and researches potential technology products to enhance solution delivery.     Merced College is a midsized community college located in California's Central Valley. Founded in 1962, the college serves more than 16,000 students with room to expand on its 267-acre main campus and 120 acre Los Banos site. Merced, incorporated in 1889, offers historical sites, affordable housing, access to the Bay Area and Sacramento, and is the Gateway to Yosemite National Park and the Sierra mountains as well as home to the University of California Merced campus.     As a member of the Information Technology Services (ITS) leadership, the Director of Enterprise Application Services is responsible for maintaining the smooth and consistent operation of the ERP/SIS system and associated services. These systems form the core upon which all other District data processes rely upon. As such, we desire an individual who appreciates the system's value and understands its technology to not only maintain current functionality but be capable of adapting it to meet the needs of tomorrow. Additionally, this department ensures that the data needed for District reporting is available by building and maintaining the necessary databases, visualizations, and analytical services.     GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Under general supervision of the Vice President of Information Technology Services, provide vision and strategic direction for the planning, development, management, and delivery of the District's enterprise resource planning and student information systems. The Director serves as an expert technical resource regarding solutions and integrated applications in support of student, administrative and instructional functions of the District and will lead day-to-day operations of the enterprise applications team. This position requires a hands-on approach to both training and other technical responsibilities.

    Examples of Duties

    Essential Functions :
    Direct the analysis, design, and implementation of a management information system in support of the instructional and administrative programs for the District
    Lead and manage day-to-day operations of the enterprise applications team (including database, business intelligence systems, and web services) to assure resources are utilized in the most effective and efficient manner possible. Continually monitor performance of staff, processes, and technology and make recommendations to improve service to meet or exceed constituent needs
    Oversee development and integration projects, systems management, data communications, installation, repair, and maintenance from inception through implementation to ensure timely, effective completion and compliance
    Manage vendor relationships, including contract negotiation, implementation oversight, and compliance requirement management
    Provide project management for major and minor enterprise application software upgrades, including end-user coordination
    Maintain security of electronic information and locally developed software
    Proven ability to maintain all users and security permissions assigned in Colleague
    Review and assign requests, allocate proper staffing, and monitor results
    Coordinate training and technical assistance to system users and administrative personnel; communicate with users as necessary to respond to requests for assistance or explanation of proper use of programs
    Plan, assess, and meet the data needs of the college staff, faculty, and students, including managing, administering, and solving reporting problems
    Work in partnership with stakeholders District-wide to establish business process requirements, analyze potential new solutions, prioritize projects, deploy and update systems/tools
    Monitor and assist in the administration of the department budget
    Monitor new developments and industry best practices to incorporate into operational management and planning for enterprise systems; analyze current applications, recommending products, architecture strategies, software platforms, database standards and development strategies. This includes exploration and, where appropriate, stewardship of cloud-based initiatives
    Build business intelligence requirements and strategies in support of business analysis functions for the District
    Select, assign, oversee training, and evaluate personnel
    Prepare reports of activities and accomplishments
    Represent the District computing

    Knowledge of :
    Skills and responsibilities necessary for database analysis
    Principles, practices, procedures, and components of information systems including computer programming analysis and optimization
    Integration of data handling applications and communications networks
    Microsoft SQL Server database management, data tools, and other third party administration tools
    Ellucian's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software integration solution, Colleague
    Principles and practices of administration, supervision and training
    Research, analysis and design techniques related to computer programming, system development methodology and maintenance
    Methods of complex research and analysis of the needs of a community college
    Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
    Oral and written communication skills
    District organizational functions, policies and procedures

    Ability to :
    Direct and perform analysis, design and implement a management information system in support of the administrative and instructional functions at a community college
    Plan, organize, and implement conversions to information system methods
    Manage, motivate and evaluate classified professionals
    Oversee coding, testing and documenting of new or modified computer programs
    Prioritize workload and conflicting demands
    Apply principles of database management techniques
    Perform complex and technical research and studies related to integrating computer systems
    Validate integrity of Colleague data
    Compile, organize, analyze, and present statistical and technical data
    Write clear and concise documentation
    Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
    Communicate effectively with faculty and staff and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships
    Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

    Typical Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Required :
    Bachelor's degree from an acceptable accredited institution in information systems, computer science, or other related field AND
    Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience pertaining to the design, development and support of enterprise applications AND
    Two (2) years of experience supervising staff in an area related to technology AND
    Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

    License or Certificate:
    Valid California driver's license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date.
