POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the direction of the Safety, Health & Environment Manager, the Safety Engineer is responsible for facilitating the reduction of occupational risk through implementation of procedures and engineering processes that support Global McCormick Health & Safety policies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensuring safe practices, injury/illness prevention processes and risk management by conducting risk assessments and job safety analysis’ on plant equipment.
Responsible for compliance with Federal and State regulatory requirements, application of McCormick Health and Safety policies and procedures, establishment of best practices for the plant/facility.
Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring, air quality, noise, temperature, and/or radiation levels to verify compliance with regulations.
Inspect facility, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards.
Assist in developing lockout tagout procedures, ensuring technician compliance, training & equipment meets all machine guarding requirements.
Ensure regulatory programs are developed and implemented (ex. Contractors, Powered Industrial Trucks, Confined Space, Chemical Management-SDS, etc.)
Leading investigations impacting employee health and safety.
Developing and implementing comprehensive industrial hygiene program consisting of such components as hearing conservation, respiratory protection and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Providing SHE support in the design and installation of new or modified equipment.
Reviewing Plant processes and standards to identify potential safety concerns and confirm appropriate PPE.
Impact safety performance of the facility through leadership and involvement with all teams.
Resolve problems by identifying and selecting solutions through the application of technical experience and review of precedents.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
5 years safety experience with demonstrated leadership ability.
Knowledge and understanding of OSHA and State safety regulations required.
In-depth understanding of how own area integrates with other areas.
Comprehensive understanding of how multiple areas contribute to achieving the goals of the business.
Basic understanding of the industry sector in which they are operating and the impact to own function. Knowledge and use of US and international safety standards (ANSI, ISO, etc.)

Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
