Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager plans, develops and manages company policies for adhering to local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Designs and develops facilities, work areas and work procedures. Being an Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager directs preparation, maintenance, and updating of environmental policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Additionally, Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Acts as advisor to environmental, health, and safety engineering team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity.     What You'll Do

    As a first level supervisor you will provide leadership, technical direction and oversight to Nuclear Engineering Safety Engineers and potentially subcontract employees. Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and safety awareness, establishing goals, and expectations. The Safety Analysis Engineering Supervisor will perform the following activities:

    • Oversee and review hazards/accident analyses for hazardous operations and changes to hazardous operations and documents in safety evaluations
    • Safety basis documentation development and review
    • Develop documents utilizing Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) process, format, and content in accordance with current DSA documents and standards
    • Performing hazard and accident analysis in support of DSA development. Performing Unreviewed Safety Question Determinations (USQD). Process DSA changes as directed by lead
    • Leading engineering resources for problem solving and issue resolution to support the mission at Pantex
    • Advises management of staffing needs necessary to address both forecast and emerging workload

    Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to manage, using project management techniques such as tracking and trending, scheduling and cost estimating to meet reliability, operability, cost, schedule and quality expectations; knowledge of engineering principles and their application to risk analysis, qualitative risk assessment, facilities and systems operation, and manufacturing processes and systems; working knowledge of engineering principles and standard industry operations. Conducts personnel performance appraisals and recommends promotions & adjustments of immediate subordinates as well participating in the overall appraisals of the functional organization as a whole.

    Minimum Job Requirements
    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Physical Science (Chemistry, Physics, or related) from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
      • There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
    • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science and 4 years nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.     Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

    Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
