Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager plans, develops and manages company policies for adhering to local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Designs and develops facilities, work areas and work procedures. Being an Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager directs preparation, maintenance, and updating of environmental policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Additionally, Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Acts as advisor to environmental, health, and safety engineering team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.   • Bachoco OK Foods is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for our Fort Smith, AR plant operations.  

    Summary: The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is primarily responsible for the oversight of safety for the Fort Smith complex. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of all applicable safety and environmental programs and company policies. To supervise, lead and mentor safety professionals on site. To strategically plan for and assist in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.  Act as primary site liaison with external regulatory agencies. Responsibilities may involve taking a lead role in some select or specialized EHS programs and/or activities as directed by the Director of EHS, by performing the following duties.                                                  

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    • Supervise, lead and mentor on-site professionals.
    • Develop, implement, manage, and/or ensure compliance for EHS compliance programs.
    • Evaluate and act upon new safety regulations.
    • Manage site activities which impact areas of EHS compliance with Federal, State, or Local regulations.
    • In collaboration with management and on-site personnel, assist in developing and implementing site policies concerning EHS issues.
    • Provide technical guidance to facility management and Occupational Nursing staff. 
    • Primary site contact for regulatory agencies such as OSHA for inspections, permitting, and reporting.
    • Provide facility representation during various audits including outside agency inquiries/inspections.
    • Lead audits at assigned facilities and assist other team members where needed.
    • Assist in the completion of reporting requirements for corporate. 
    • Assist in the validation of both monthly and quarterly statistical data from individual facilities.  
    • Assist with tracking and communication of regulatory requirements within the company.
    • Assure that plans are developed and executed to assure that activities are conducted in compliance with applicable safety and environmental laws.
    • Assist site with safety training and develop written programs where applicable.
    • Provide information and direction to management on potential threats to the business. 

    Supervisory Responsibilities: As determined by the Director of Safety.

    Qualifications:

    Education and/or Experience: 
    • College degree; or in the process of obtaining. 
    • Five years of related experience and/or training in health/sciences or work experience in the safety field or military leadership experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
    • Practical experience in safety in an industrial setting,  including knowledge of incident investigation processes is desired.

    Language Skills: 
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registration: ASP or CSP is preferred.

    Reasoning Ability: To apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully an individual should have practical working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
