Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager plans, develops and manages company policies for adhering to local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Designs and develops facilities, work areas and work procedures. Being an Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager directs preparation, maintenance, and updating of environmental policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Additionally, Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Acts as advisor to environmental, health, and safety engineering team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. Description
FUNCTION:
Exempt – This position is responsible for providing health, safety and compliance oversight at Perma-Fix of Florida. The position reports to the VP, General Manager, and coordinates with facility managers to ensure worker safety, provide compliance and permitting support, conduct facility inspections and assessments and assist in all regulatory activities as required.
DUTIES:
· Implement health and safety procedures and practices at a TSDF
· Evaluate work practices, controls, and corrective actions for effectiveness and compliance.
· Conduct health and safety inspections to ensure worker safety.
· Assist with regulatory reporting as required at each facility.
· Provide technical support in the application of regulatory requirements, procedures and standards for environmental health and safety.
· Provide RCRA, OSHA, DOT and other required training to employees and customers.
· Provide support to facility managers for regulatory inspections and vendor audits.
· Provide training for facility managers and others assigned as emergency coordinators.
· Act as an emergency coordinator for the Perma-Fix of Florida facility.
· Research changing regulations and implement new programs as necessary.
· Maintain required EPA and OSHA reports and logs.
· Administer process safety management program.
· Administer and execute Facility Contingency Plan when necessary.
· Create and administer Health & Safety SOP’s and JHA’s.
· Assist with facility-based and regional compliance.
· Perform incident and/or accident evaluations.
· Maintain transportation compliance documents.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
· Minimum A.S. or equivalent, preferably in Industrial Hygiene or Occupational Health and Safety.
· Two years appropriate experience in an TSDF setting
· Strong verbal and written comprehension and communication skills.
· Annual respirator fit test qualified and ability to function in all levels of personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Strong customer relations skills.
· Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interface with all levels of management and company personnel.
· Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
· Strong verbal and written comprehension and communication skills.
· Current HAZWOPER certified.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Continuous field/facility work required where there is potential for exposure to hazardous chemicals, radiation, noise, dust, and extreme temperatures. Climbing, walking and lifting will be normal daily requirements. Some travel may be required.
