    The Opportunity:
    The Bursar Specialist supports the Bursar through a broad array of student service issues, including student accounts, financial aid, and payments. This is a generalist position that is cross trained to serve all Sustainable Education Business Units (SEBUs) in providing consistent delivery of services and information. This position is responsible for working directly with Unity Environmental University students to support them in managing their financial needs and requirements. This position will use student financial aid programs, financial aid information systems, billing software as well as retrieve information for program management and reports to support student financial processing.

     

    Day to Day Responsibilities:

    • Receives and receipts a variety of payments and other cash and cash-related transactions; verifies and posts to appropriate accounts; issues receipts. Prepares daily cash; maintains and balances cash and daily cashier charge activity.
    • Assists individuals in the accurate application of their transactions, and when necessary, researches records on electronic and other available files to provide information regarding financial status
    • Conduct student document tracking.
    • Maintains confidentiality of university and student records
    • Answering telephones, reviewing refunds and other balances, setting up accounts, preparing invoices, preparing routine billings, and filing cashiering documents
    • Enter all cash transactions into the SIS .
    • Work collaboratively with staff from the Bursar and Business Office.
    • Create, maintain and distribute reports for academic support staff to follow up on students with missing items and balance due.
    • Communicate with parents and/or students regarding the student billing process and payment options.
    • Assist with reviewing bills, financial aid awards in the Student Information System.
    • Assist in updating publications, standardized letters, manuals, and forms used in student billing administration.
    • Perform soft collect outreach to students to assist with completing paperwork and payment options.
    • Attend required trainings to learn and maintain required skills to perform all duties for Bursar function across all SEBUs.
    • Assist with student account review for accuracy
    • Scan processed student documents to electronic files.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications


    Do you have the skills?

    • Associate degree and a minimum of 1-3 years job related experience or in lieu of Associate degree equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Basic knowledge of accounting
    • Must be capable of independent judgement, highly motivated with strong organizational skills.
    • Must be flexible with good interpersonal skills.
    • Able to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    • Able to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    • Extensive knowledge of computerized data base systems, word processing and spreadsheets.
    • Able to define problems, collect data establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    • Ability to function effectively within a matrix organizational structure, maintaining open lines of communication while being discreet, courteous, and well poised.

    Preferred:

    • Experience in a college environment or financial services department

    Work Schedule:
    Work hours are specific to the requirements of this position and can include days, evenings, weekends. Working extended hours may be required as needed and Unity Environmental University employees must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling their responsibilities while meeting the University's needs.

    Although at Unity Environmental University Enterprise employees are generally scheduled to work at their base location, there are times when travel is necessary and employees are required from time to time to attend events, meetings or work temporary assignment at any Unity Environmental University location.
     

    Physical Demands:
    While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The use of either hand for repetitive movements such as grasping, grasping, and turning, and fine manipulation is required as is the ability to use the telephone for internal and external communications.
