Environmental, Health and Safety Director oversees organizational compliance with local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Ensures that environmental policy and procedure manuals are available and updated at all times. Being an Environmental, Health and Safety Director ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, Environmental, Health and Safety Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Environmental, Health and Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The Director of Environmental Services (EVS) will have full oversight of the UF Health Shands environmental services operation, ensuring high-quality and professionally managed services. This position will develop strategic plans and policies for the department in alignment with the organization's mission and key performance indicators, direct business operations, negotiate contracts, prepare and administer annual budgets, and manage financial performance for the department. This role provides leadership and direction to EVS management and staff, ensuring continuous quality initiatives and a high level of cleanliness for patients, visitors and staff. Additionally, the director implements strategies to enhance employee engagement and manages programs designed to foster team-building and retention. Coverage for managers and supervisors is provided by the director to ensure sufficient staffing for EVS operations. The director is responsible for ensuring compliance with The Joint Commission and federal, state and local laws, regulations and codes pertaining to waste management, labor and operations of environmental services.
     

    Job Opening Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in hospitality, health care, business or related and 5 years of management experience in environmental services (preferably in health care) required.
      • In lieu of degree, candidates must have 9 years of management experience in environmental services (preferably in health care).
    • Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) credential preferred.
    • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to prepare and deliver executive-level presentations necessary.
    • Must be proficient in MS Office suite; experience in EVS software systems preferred.
    • Proven success in leading teams to exceptional outcomes in a complex, fast-paced environment while providing outstanding service is required.


    Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:
    Employees in this position will operate vehicle as a non-frequent driver.

    Licensure/Certification/Registration:

    • Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) credential preferred.


    Minimum Pay Rate - Hourly: $46.17
    Midpoint Pay Rate - Hourly: $62.43
