Environmental, Health and Safety Director oversees organizational compliance with local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Ensures that environmental policy and procedure manuals are available and updated at all times. Being an Environmental, Health and Safety Director ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, Environmental, Health and Safety Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Environmental, Health and Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Environmental Health and Food Safety Specialist

    Safety and Food Safety Program

    • Review hazard assessments, provide management with plan of corrective actions and support
    • Work closely with management (production, ranch, VPs and partners) to understand future training needs
    • Implement established procedures to address current and anticipated safety issues
    • Review accident investigations, near misses, or problem areas requiring complex data analysis. Recommend technically preventive measures to fix or alleviate hazard using sound decision/ financial evaluation.
    • Collaborate in the development of procedures, work instructions and documentary review, taking into account updates and new regulations.
    • Ensure production and ranch management carry out the Food Safety and Safety Program. Maintain open two-way communication and participate in meetings.
    • Ensure Safety and Food Safety records are maintained, updated and available.

     

    Trainings
    • Implement established safety training (i.e., Illness and Injury Prevention Program “IIPP”, Job Safety Analysis “JSA”, etc.).
    • Observe safety practices in the field/ranch to ensure the proper use of tools and equipment. Train on JSAs.
    • Manage training schedules. Provide training to new and existing staff, management (Production Team) and agricultural workers on the Food Safety Program and Safety Program.

    Regulatory and Social Compliance/Inspections/Audits
    • Conduct audits for safety and compliance.
    • Conduct behavior safety evaluations to ensure safety rules, policies and procedures are followed.
    • Input inspection audits/results/recommendations, injuries and/or illnesses, training and all other required data into the safety database. Provide support to safety team in data entry.
    • Act as liaison and coordinator with third-party audits.
    • Collaborate with the Food Safety Management Team to ensure the resolution of non-conformities as well as the submission of timely evidence in the required format.
    • Deliver required Food Safety and Safety reports, to include inspection, to production and ranch management.



    Accident Investigation
    • Investigate accident, injuries and or illnesses in a timely manner.
    • Support management, the employee and safety team, as required.
    • Document findings and determine root cause.
    • Recommend and implement corrective action.
    • Identify injury/illness accident patterns, develop and implement strategies to reduce and/or eliminate future incidents.

    • OSHA Outreach Training Certification 30 Hours, required

    • Food safety
    • Agriculture related concepts, practices and procedures is a plus

    Licenses:
    • Valid Driver’s license and ability to be insured under the company insurance.

    Travel Requirements
    • Ability to travel 75 percent of the time – domestic (ranch to ranch)
    •  75% of time spent in field / 25% of time spent in office
