    Job Summary/Objective

    Develop, maintain, and oversee a program that will ensure the Company’s subsidiaries (e.g. Riverence Brood LLC, Riverence Farms LLC, and Riverence Provisions LLC) operate in compliance with their applicable discharge permits, stormwater permits, and other environmentally related permits, licenses, certifications, or other regulatory obligations. Participate and develop or compile necessary documentation or data to support any third-party certifications. Develop professional relationships with staff in the RH Lab and across all companies within the Riverence Group to coordinate and ensure environmental compliance. Represent the applicable subsidiary company on water quality or environmental related inspections and audits, including inspections from the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). Professionally represent the Company and its subsidiaries in meetings, site visits, and other work with external parties, such as regulatory agencies, inspectors, and auditors.

    Essential Functions

    • Work with the Company’s subsidiaries operating in Idaho to ensure ongoing compliance with their respective discharge and stormwater permits, including:
    • Direct and manage the water quality sampling, testing, and documentation across multiple locations owned or operated in Idaho by our subsidiaries.
    • Coordinate and manage the water sampling schedule to ensure the necessary tests are run in the appropriate intervals (e.g., monthly, quarterly, biannually, annually) and ensuring the appropriate process and procedures are followed and documented.  
    • Communicate with the applicable farm manager and/or other individuals, if resampling is needed, including coordination with the RH Lab.
    • Respectfully educate on-site staff about the requirements of the applicable discharge permit and address any questions concerning same.
    • Responsible for maintaining an electronic file of all documentation and other paperwork associated with the various discharge and stormwater permits, including but not limited to the Notice of Intents (NOI), Best Management Practices (solids management plans, etc), Quality Assurance Plans (QAP), Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs) and associated raw data, Chain of Custodies (COCs), lab analysis paperwork, annual reports, production logs, INAD reporting (as applicable) (“Documentation”).
    • Review the Documentation and revise as needed to ensure it reflects up-to-date information and complies with the permit and any instructions or direction from DEQ. 
    • Ensure each location that has a discharge permit has and maintains the appropriate Documentation on-site.
    • Meet with each farm manager at least annually to review the Documentation, address any needed operational or process changes, and, if needed, facilitate mock inspections.
    • Compile data from each Idaho location with a discharge permit and obtain test results from the RH Lab (or other lab) to prepare and submit the Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) as required by the applicable discharge permit.
    • Be the primary point of contact for DEQ for inspections and document requests.
    • Promptly address and respond to any Notice of Violations from DEQ or other regulatory bodies.
    • Perform site-visits, as needed, to monitor for operational compliance with discharge permits or other regulatory or third-party certification requirements, such as monitoring pond hygiene, offline settling ponds, and ensuring fish stay out of quiescent zones.
    • Prepare and maintain excel worksheets to track water flows and water quality data to enable an understanding of water quality trends over multiple years or decades for the Company’s farm and brood locations in Idaho.
    • Compile and maintain or develop other reports of other environmental data as needed.
    • Attend all Watershed Advisory Group (WAG) meetings and prepare summaries of same.
    • Attend meetings with DEQ or other related agencies or associations, as needed or requested.
    • Participate in Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification preparations and audits, including preparing or compiling any needed water quality documentation.
    • Conduct internal audits to verify the effectiveness of programs and processes concerning environmental compliance.
    • Professionally present programs, processes, and results to regulatory agencies, visitors, auditors, or inspectors as needed.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, supervisors, and employees within the Company and its subsidiaries.
    • Work independently and as a team member to further the goals of the Company and its subsidiaries as needed.
    • Conduct all work safely following all safety rules and procedures.
    • Operate and access software and computers including custom software as needed.
    • Manage projects and work as assigned.
    • Drive company vehicles safely obeying all traffic laws.
    • Any other duties as assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

    Work Environment

    Employee will work in an office environment and outdoor environment. When working in the outdoor environment, the Employee may be exposed to various climates including extreme cold weather and extreme hot weather.

    Physical Demands

    This job involves medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of lifting. 

    The worker will be required to have a range of motion as follows: 

    • Often requires sitting or standing for sustained periods of time. 
    • Occasionally requires stooping and reaching. 
    • Occasionally requires walking, moving, or climbing to accomplish tasks. 
    • Lifting is required on an occasional basis.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    Full-time position, 5 days a week, Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. May be required to work varied schedule as needed.

    Travel

    Local and regional travel is required. 

    Required Education and Experience

    • Experience with discharge permits issued by either DEQ or the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and compliance with same.
    • Experience working with or at an environmental regulatory agency.
    • Experience developing professional relationships.
    • Current valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required.
    • 2 to 5 years of experience.

    Preferred Education and Experience

    • Extensive knowledge of workflow and operation of trout farms.
    • Familiarity with the Idaho Waste Management Guidelines for Aquaculture Operations.
    • Familiarity with water-quality sampling, data, and analysis.
    • Experience compiling, maintaining, and analyzing data sets.
    • Bachelor’s degree, particularly in a science or related field.
