The Sr. Environmental Compliance Manager reports findings to Facility Manager(s) and Supervisor. Strive to work with Facility Management and Staff to meet Best Management Practices (BMP) requirements and improve compliance to achieve the Corporate "Zero Deficiency" goal. Coordinate and implement environmental related activities as required by Federal, State, Provincial, and Local laws and company policies and procedures
- Bachelors of Science degree in a technical or physical science field and or Bachelors in Engineering i.e. 4 or more years of related experience.
- Excellent working knowledge of Federal State, Provincial, and Local regulations including: EPA (RCRA; SARA/CERCLA; TSCA; CWA and CAA) and DOT.
- Excellent industry (oil & gas and/or oilfield services) knowledge and experience
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Superior written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to maintain effective professional relationships while leading/mentoring in a team atmosphere.
- Strong work ethic with an ability to work independently and in a team environment.

- Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
- Provide continual staff development (training, guidance, technical support) to all subordinate field personnel to ensure they will have the tools to be effective in their positions.
- Conduct or monitor periodic operational environmental inspections (in concert with facility operational staff) using facility inspection check list and other appropriate audit check lists to ensure facility compliance with all regulations, permits and company policies and procedures.
- Maintain contact with Facility Manager(s) to ensure environmental compliance issues are fully communicated and understood. Periodic site visits must include facility walk-through with site manager.
- Communicate all environmental issues to the Facility Manager and Supervisor, provide follow-up to ensure that corrective actions are tracked.
- Become well-versed with facility permits, associated processes, and associated environmental regulations.
- Prepare / review routine environmental reports for site Facility Manager(s) and Supervisor(s) review (as appropriate).
- Coordinate outside consultants / contractors to ensure that they comply with environmental regulations and facility procedures.
- Participate in environmental compliance related proposals and participate in the preparation of associated CAF's.
- Actively participate during facility compliance audits.
- Obtain, renew and/or modify facility permits as required.
- Assist the Facility Manager with accident / incident investigation and track corrective action to ensure follow-up.
- Perform routine compliance audits to ensure that regulatory record-keeping and reporting requirements are compliant (e.g. manifest and LDR forms).
- Participate in external, and due-diligence audits of facilities; complete written audit reports for Corporate submittal.
- Supervise the collection, preparation, and review of all compliance monitoring data and required regulatory reports. Disseminate as appropriate. Ensure all environmental compliance & DOT training is delivered to facility personnel, and documented in facility operation records in a timely manner, as per applicable Corporate requirements. Actively participate in the coordination, response, and follow-up to environmental related incidents and unscheduled activities and agency requests (e.g. spills, fires, enforcement actions). Identify Federal, State, Provincial, and Local environmental regulation(s) (existing and proposed) which could impact facility operations. Disseminate aforementioned information to Corporate. Interact with facility stakeholders including State, Local and Provincial agencies, fire department, LEPC and others to build community relations. Ensure development of compliance calendar and site specific / task specific SOPs as needed for uniform implementation of applicable company BMP's.
- Participate in staff professional development initiatives as identified by Corporate. Manage environmental compliance staff (if applicable) - coordinate efforts to provide the best compliance coverage to the facility (facilities). Perform other duties as directed by Supervisor.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time by management and will be required by the needs of the Clean Harbors business.
