Environmental Planner plans, prepares, and monitors environmental research and evaluates potential impact of assigned projects. Ensures environmental projects are in compliance with the state and federal regulations. Being an Environmental Planner estimate the level of pollutants involving air, land, and water to devise mitigating measures. Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Additionally, Environmental Planner typically reports to a supervisor. To be an Environmental Planner typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. One year of experience in environmental education programs; or one year college study with specialization in natural science, natural resources, or environmental education.
1. Coordinate logistics for Teen Environmental Career Mentoring Program that introduces youth in Buffalo to environmental careers. Arrange for guest speakers, field trips, transportation etc. for biweekly programs. Attend most sessions and work with partnering organizations to ensure successful experiences.
2. Prepare, maintain and deliver materials for teachers and students to participate in the Day in the Life of the Niagara River/Lake Erie Watershed program. Scout sites for field experiences. Present classroom and outdoor environmental education programs to participating classes.
3) Conduct environmental education programs for adult groups, youth groups, school children and the general public in both indoor and outdoor settings, at Reinstein Woods and off-site locations.
4) Perform “building duty” as needed and assist with preparations for major festivals and events such as Get Outdoors Day and the Fall Festival.
5) Coordinate daily care of turtles and vermiculture worms used for educational programs.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2024, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
