  • JOB SUMMARY:

    Reporting to the Environmental Compliance Program Manager, the Environmental Compliance Coordinator (ECC) is responsible for facilitating the development, implementation, monitoring, reporting, training and recordkeeping of environmental and waste management procedures and activities throughout the MER Family of Companies. The ECC performs a variety of reporting and administrative duties, particularly in the areas of waste storage, transportation and disposal. The ECC is expected to travel 10% - 25%.


    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assists with waste generation, transportation and storage program including but not limited to:
      • Coordinating, tracking and auditing of waste characterization/profiling process
      • Auditing waste generation, transportation and storage activities
      • Conducting audits of proper preparation and reconciliation of shipping-related documents
      • Working with local management to track corrective actions to closure
      • Working with project managers on collecting samples to profile waste
      • Working with the Company’s Environmental Compliance Program Manager and Training Manager to develop and deliver training associated with environmental regulations
      • Working with local management to maintain compliance with regulatory and client-required reporting
      • Providing technical assistance with transportation and disposal of Hazardous and Non-hazardous waste
      • Improving existing processes and communicate changes to those impacted
      • Coordination an auditing program of liability assessments of all TSDF’s utilized by the company (as assigned)
    • Database management associated with the environmental and waste program including but not limited to:
      • Training users on how to access databases and use the system
      • Ensuring data in the databases is current and accurate
      • Utilizing internal databases and publicly available data to submit reports to regulatory agencies
    • Act as Hazmat SME (Subject Matter Expert) to support the compliant, safe, timely and cost-effective transportation of Hazardous Materials
    • Assist local management with the storage of all Hazmat to ensure compliance with applicable regulations (EPA, OSHA, etc.)
    • Work with Company’s Training Manager to create and conduct Hazmat trainings to ensure safety and compliance
    • Act as Hazmat SME to respond to any Hazmat violations or incidents

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Occasionally engages in strenuous physical labor including pushing, pulling, and frequently lifting and moving up to 50 lbs.
    • Occasionally requires grasping, reaching, crawling, stooping, and crouching in confined spaces. Requires traversing and ladder ascent/decent to access different areas of jobsite. Must be able to remain stationary for long periods of time.
    • Employment is contingent upon a successful pre-hire medical exam.
    • Wears/uses Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) up to Level A. This includes respirators, skin, face, hand, and foot protection in a multiple number of combinations.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    • Works in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold while wearing various levels of personal protective equipment.
    • Works in atmospheres and locations with the potential for exposure to various chemical, physical and biological agents, some of which may be hazardous, toxic, or corrosive.
    • Works in potentially elevated noise levels, confined spaces, including lifting in areas of low clearance.
    • Working at elevations including working from ladders and scaffolding.
    • Must be able to work in excess of regularly scheduled hours when necessary; on occasion this will require work during weekends and holidays.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • 1-3 years of environmental/waste management experience in heavy industry preferred
    • Environmental investigation and remediation experience and familiarity with OSHA and EPA regulations preferred
    • Completed training and certifications for HAZWOPER, DOT HAZMAT, RCRA, confined space entry training preferred, or the ability to obtain
    • Experience in managing/handling compliance issues, permitting, manufacturing operations, OSHA/EPA programs, regulatory reviews, permit preparation, reporting and record keeping preferred
    • Experience with regulatory and/or other statutory compliance and administration preferred
    • Strong Microsoft Suite skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
    • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
    • Ability to research, analyze and interpret regulations
    • Strong communication (both written and verbal), analytical and persuasive skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of clients, employees, and management.
    • Experience implementing change and process improvements
    • Experience training a diverse audience
    • Experience collecting samples of waste material for analysis via EPA methodology
    • Ability to travel overnight as required by business needs.

    Education Requirements:
    • Associate’s degree in Environmental Science , Public Health Safety or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
