    REPORTS TO:                     Environmental Services Manager

    SUPERVISES:                       N/A

    DEPARTMENT:                  Environmental Services

    **This position is Full-Time, 40 hours/week. Schedule varies. 

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The primary purpose of the Environmental Services Technician role is to perform the day-to-day activities of the Environmental Services and Laundry Department in accordance with current Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing The Overlook/MHS operating and safety standards in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.

    PRINCIPLE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Ensure that work and cleaning schedules are followed as closely as is practical.
    • Performs routine cleaning assignments in resident living and/or common areas.
    • Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed or called.
    • Perform all duties in an independent manner with little or no supervision.
    • Participate and assist in department studies and projects.
    • Attend and participate in in-service education classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as directed.
    • Attend and participate in annual OSHA and CDC in-service training programs for hazard communication, TB management, and bloodborne pathogens standards.
    • Perform day-to-day EVS functions as assigned in a safe efficient manner.
    • Discard infectious waste into appropriate containers.
    • Maintain cleanliness of environment, including but not limited to med rooms, employee bathrooms, closets, wheelchairs, scales, bedside table, etc.
    • Clean and polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, etc. in resident rooms and common areas.
    • Clean, wash, sanitize, and/or polish bathroom fixtures.  Ensure that watermarks are removed from fixtures.
    • Clean glass (primarily windows and mirrors) in resident rooms, common areas, bathrooms, and entrance / exits.
    • Remove all trash and linen for the campus.
    • Clean floors to include dusting, dry/wet mopping, disinfecting, burnishing, waxing, etc.
    • Clean carpets to include vacuuming, shampooing, and disinfecting.
    • Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning.
    • Remove dirt, dust, grease, films, etc. from surfaces using proper cleaning and disinfecting method.
    • Clean hallways, stairwells and elevators.
    • Discard waste and trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacles with plastic liner.  Spot clean inside and outside of trash receptacle when needed.
    • Clean and prepare vacant resident rooms for occupancy.
    • Pick up soiled linens from resident rooms and deliver them to the laundry room.
    • Ensure that work assignment areas are clean and that equipment, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times throughout the day, as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, meal times, and end of your shift.
    • Perform isolation-cleaning procedure in accordance with established infection control procedures.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as per training, signage and product labels. 
    • Adhere to safety regulations as per departmental training, (i.e. wet floor signs, caution tape, electrical cords laid along walls).
    • Ensure that an adequate supply of EVS supplies to perform daily tasks is maintained in EVS closets.
    • Report burned out light bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, etc.
    • Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc., when requested.
    • Clean work / supply carts, equipment, etc., as needed.
    • Accountable for maintaining the confidentiality and security of all facility, medical staff and resident data and information.
    • Shall be accountable for abiding by all relevant Overlook policies and procedures.
    • Assist in the orientation and training of new Team Members
    • Maintain up to date and accurate required regulatory documentation as requested
    • Complete all annual training and education requirements
    • Use of The Overlook’s Work Order system (Worxhub) for customer requests and preventative maintenance

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school diploma or equivalent - required
    • Valid Driver’s License - required
    • Generalized knowledge in the use of EVS equipment - preferred
    • Prior knowledge of floor stripping, burnishing, and carpet cleaning preferred - preferred
    • Good written and verbal communication skills

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Moderate to heavy physical effort, including frequently lifting up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting over 50 pounds; may be exposed to the elements (heat, cold, rain, snow); work with hazardous equipment and moving parts; work on roof top and other high places; ability to set up and climb ladders safely with tools and equipment necessary for assigned work; must be able to walk, stand and stoop for an extended period of time in order to complete work.
