The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) announces an examination process to create an eligibility list to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Epidemiologist in the Disease Surveillance & Control Division. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to four (4) months.
This position is funded by a grant and the continuation of the position depends on the availability of grant funds and the business requirements of SNHD. If the funding is discontinued or becomes unavailable, your employment may be terminated without the right to appeal.
Responsible for conducting disease surveillance and recommend disease control measures; evaluates public health data including unusual occurrences of health conditions; functions as a member of a multidisciplinary outbreak investigation and response team; provides epidemiologic information to the medical community and general public This position will be working with water based surveillance.

Education and Training
- A Masters’ Degree in Public Health with an emphasis in epidemiology or a related field.
Experience- One (1) year of experience in performing epidemiological analyses and investigations; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
License or Certificate
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.- Nevada Driver’s License.
- Incident Command System training, ICS 100, ICS 200, and NIMS within six (6) months of date of hire.
Preferred Qualification:
- Statistical analysis experience preferred.
- Knowledge of environmental health and the role of waste water in public health surveillance preferred.
- An understanding of laboratory methods for detecting pathogens in waste water preferred.
