Description of the Job:

Under general supervision, is responsible for the operation of vehicles and/equipment, usually of a single-axle type such as dump truck, mowers, sweeper, front end loader; performs other related duties as required.

Illustrative Duties: (The duties listed below are intended to illustrate work functions performed by this classification)

• Operates various types of trucks such as dump, snow plow, stake body, etc.
• May transport materials and/or personnel and performs laboring tasks when not operating equipment.
• Operates tractors with various detachable implements
• Hauls tools, equipment, supplies, and trash
• Assists in loading or unloading supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Maintains road and land surfaces through the use of shovels, rakes, and other equipment and tools
• Assists with the resurfacing of highways and roads; helps repair roads and sewer systems
• Performs the duties of a laborer or semi-skilled laborer.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Necessary Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: (At the time of filing application).

• Knowledge of the use of various types of trucks such as dump and salt
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability and willingness to perform heavy physical labor for extended periods of time
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, and the general public

Qualifications Desirable for Employment:

• Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities listed above.
• Completion of the twelfth school grade and two years of equipment operating experience
• Valid commercial driver’s license
• Erie County resident preferred
