Equipment Engineer designs, develops, evaluates, and deploys manufacturing equipment, devices, and systems. Develops electrical control devices to convey materials and products throughout the manufacturing process. Being a Equipment Engineer integrates devices and instruments into the systems that measure and control environmental or material variations occurring during the manufacturing process. Ensures equipment and processes maintain throughput, yield, safety, and reliability objectives. Additionally, Equipment Engineer maintains an up-to-date knowledge of equipment vendors' changes, upgrades, and innovations. Prepares preventive maintenance plans and procedures for all equipment and provides technical support during maintenance or turnaround processes. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering.     What to Expect

    Manufacturing Equipment Engineer in the production engineering team will be a part of operating, sustaining, and improving the manufacturing equipment at Tesla's Gigafactory New York. The best candidate for the position will demonstrate previous applicable experience and has a high aptitude to learn new skillsets in the position. The expectation is that engineers will start with strengths in multiple given fields (equipment design, AUTOCAD/Solidworks, robotics, PLC Programming, vision, HMI scripting, etc) and then learn all other areas from those who work with them. This role requires capability across the board to sustain all parts of the automated/semi-automated equipment.

    What You'll Do
    • Responsible for the equipment performance and improvement of multiple assigned production processes at GFNY
    • Sustain 24 by 7 production operations through responding to and resolving breakdowns quickly and efficiently to minimize downtime
    • Active participant of cross functional teams while taking on improvement projects to assist in improving the factory. Diagnoses equipment failures, finds root cause and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness. Lead equipment upgrades with a focus on serviceability, reliability and process capability
    • Develop and improve equipment validation procedures including calibration and qualification
    • Become Expert Level Trainer on all machines in assigned area and be responsible for the level of knowledge of Shift technicians. Provide hands-on support to maintenance team to troubleshoot and resolve extended downtime situations
    • Takes initiative to create, implement and improve Preventative and Predictive Maintenance documents and schedules, under the direction of the Maintenance Planner
    • Ability to troubleshoot ladder logic to appropriately identify controls issues program ladder logic (Allen-Bradley, Siemens and Beckhoff). Ability to program and teach industrial 6-axis robots (Fanuc) Sequence complex, multi-station machinery for material pick-and-place, dispense, fastening, welding and conveyance applications
    • Participate in spare part analysis and inventory development, cost reduction, improvement working with Spares Department to RMA faulty components and communicate needs to the vendor
    What You'll Bring
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronic, or a related field, or equivalent
    • 3 years of engineering experience in a high volume environment or equivalent relevant experience
    • Experience with 2D/ 3D modeling software (AUTOCAD and Solidworks/CATIA preferred)
    • Vision system (Cognex and Keyence preferred) development & qualification experience. Robotics (Fanuc) experience - troubleshoot/teaching
    • Experience commissioning and improving Equipment. Have a demonstrated track record of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement, Preventative and Predictive Maintenance activities
    • Experience developing and improving HMI's. Experience with PLC (Allen Bradley preferred) programming, motion control, safety devices
    • Demonstrated experience managing and implementing projects in a production environment
    • Good understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Safety, Ergonomics, Change Point Management, Spare Parts Management
    • Strong problem solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly. Able to utilize structured problem solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or Eight Disciplines (8D). Able to resolve high level performance issues into addressable actions
    • Skilled with the use of a variety of hand and portable tools as well as general machining. Able to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings and electrical schematics

      Expected Compensation

      $68,000 - $219,300/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
