    Major Duties:

    • Plans the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a daily, week-to-week and month-to -month basis.
    • Furnishes leadership, direction and supervision to employees assigned to the Grounds Shop.
    • Supervises employees of the Unit in maintaining grounds; maintaining gasoline and diesel-powered grounds equipment; snow removal and pest control.
    • Functions as unit's definitive subject matter expert for Roads, Parking Lots, Grounds, Gardening, and Pest Control.
    • Plans and establishes the work requirements and schedules of subordinate workers to accomplish the work plan.
    • Directs input and participation in meetings/conferences with the Chief EMS.
    • Develops the Grounds Shop's work plan requirements for the fiscal year to include estimated man-hours, material, equipment and project durations.
    • Develops and forecasts the Grounds Shop's fiscal year budget and submits it for coordination/approval by the Chief Environmental Management Service.
    • Conducts analysis of the work plan and day-to-day operations, recommends changes in the plan to the Chief EMS that may impact the success of the plan and that deviate from previously planned/approved work schedules.
    • Participates, as the unit's definitive subject matter expert, with the Chief EMS and other higher-level management and staff to develop recommendations in changes to requirements, work methods/techniques, work standards, manpower structure/responsibilities/work techniques and standards.
    • Selects subordinate workers and assigns tasks to be performed.
    • Explains work requirements, methods and procedures, operating instructions, sets deadlines and establishes the sequence of work operations.
    • Instructs subordinates in new procedures and provides advice when problems arise.
    • Achieves the most effective work operations by balancing workloads, shifting assignments, workers and resources within the unit.
    • Reviews and analyzes work in progress and work accomplishments, costs. work force utilization, and material/equipment costs to ensure problems are immediately addressed to supervisor.
    • Maintains proper use of agricultural fungicides, pesticides and fertilizers, both organic and chemical.
    Work Schedule: Monday - Saturday 40 hours a week. Days off are determined by the needs of the service.
    Summer Season: 40 Hours - April - October - 4:00AM - 12:30PM
    Winter Season: 40 Hours - November - March - 6:00AM - 2:30PM

    Qualifications

    PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: He/she must be physically able to direct the accomplishment of the above work. He/she must be capable of standing, bending, climbing ladders and scaffolds, and in general have use of his/her limbs. He/she must visit all those areas where subordinates will be working for the purpose of instruction and/or inspection.
    Work involves frequent walking, standing and sedentary desk work. Occasionally requires: stooping, bending, working on ladders or scaffolds, or working in cramped or awkward positions. He/she is subject to hazardous conditions, working under extreme temperatures, hot and cold, and in inclement weather. He/she must be aware of this and be able to cope with same. He/she may be exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruised and broken bones. He/she may also be exposed to contagious disease when working in patient areas. Safety procedures must be followed, and appropriate protective safe gear must be worn, as required for the specific work area or task.
