Job Overview
The Kauai Humane Society (KHS) is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Technician to uphold the integrity and safety of our facilities, including the KHS shelter, BloomingTails thrift store, vehicles, and incinerator. This role is pivotal in ensuring a functional environment conducive to animal welfare and community service.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute hands-on maintenance tasks for diverse projects, such as drilling and setting portals in stainless steel animal kennels, and managing ventilation systems.
- Perform installations and removals of motors for equipment used in the facility, including bone grinding machines, electrical generators, and industrial washers/dryers.
- Interpret blueprints accurately for projects, including overseeing the installation of essential utilities and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Conduct routine inspections of structures to identify repairs or renovations required.
- Manage preventative maintenance schedules to extend the longevity of shelter components.
- Ensure proper chlorination of the property's well water system to guarantee safety for animal consumption.
- Maintain KHS vehicles, ensuring they are serviced timely.
- Respond to urgent maintenance situations as needed, including weekends and holidays.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the organization.
Required Skills
- Proficient knowledge in electrical, mechanical, construction, landscaping, and plumbing is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints effectively.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail.
- Dependability and a solid work ethic are critical for success in this role.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent GED.
- Valid Hawaii Driver's license or valid out-of-state license with a clean driving record for at least one year prior to application.
- Comfort and respect around dogs and cats of various sizes is expected, though direct handling of animals is not required.
