FACILITIES SUPERVISOR supervises and coordinates the day-to-day maintenance and support of buildings, grounds, and facilities systems. Oversees staff installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management. Being a FACILITIES SUPERVISOR tracks work orders and ensures work follows established service and quality standards for completion. Schedules and supervises preventative maintenance, painting, or carpentry projects. Additionally, FACILITIES SUPERVISOR maintains a safe and effective working environment that complies with regulations and laws. May coordinate work to be completed by contractors and skilled trades. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically reports to a manager. The FACILITIES SUPERVISOR supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. This position is a hands-on position, and the physical requirements for this position must be met. Responsible for administering the daily operations of the Franklin Park Zoo Facilities Department and grounds to ensure a safe, clean, and secure environment for staff, visitors and our animal collection. Responsible for keeping abreast of and following OSHA requirements. Duties include but are not limited to, managing facilities staff, delegation of work assignments, and ensuring required training and performance measurements are key components in managing staff. . Coordinates and oversees activities of outside contractors ensuring their compliance regarding zoo policies, protocols, and scope of work. Coordinate cross-departmental activities as needed with staff, administer payroll, scheduling, order materials, track inventory supplies, and manage the completion of work orders and preventative maintenance tasks. Supervise and oversee all applicable facilities and grounds related activities regarding special events, including ZNE’s evening events. The Facilities Supervisor is required to abide by and enforce ZNE’s uniform and grooming policies. The Facilities Supervisor must maintain a pleasant attitude and encourage positive employee morale through effective coaching techniques for their staff. Regular work schedule, Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday-Thursday, from 7:00am – 4:00pm. Must be flexible and able to work outside of regular work schedule as needed. Must be available 24/7 to respond to facilities emergencies.

Must be able to apply limited manual dexterity in combination with eye-hand coordination such as in the operation of a basic keyboard, basic hand tools, and instruments, operating office equipment and operating a vehicle. Employee must have good vision to read documents for general understanding and for analytical purposes. Occasionally the Facilities Supervisor is required to review non-written materials (diagrams/maps) for general observation purposes. It is necessary for the Facilities Supervisor to differentiate between colors.
