General Description
This position performs work planning and directing the preparation and service of food in a state facility. Supervises and assigns duties to cooks, food service workers and other positions assigned to the area. Schedules shifts for workers. May work under the supervision of a nutritionist and perform related work as necessary. Will be responsible for the entire department operations in the absence of the nutritionist. Communicates with food service workers assigned to ensure smooth operation of each shift. Maintains adequate staffing in the department with schedule adjustments as needed. Instructs food service workers and cooks in their daily activities. May receive complaints, questions, issues, etc. but always keeps the nutritionist informed. Ensures that employees comply with policies, rules, and regulations, as pertains to employee conduct, to include dietary standards of food prep and serving. Supervises tray service, checks for accuracy and attractiveness. Ensures meals are served on time as scheduled. In the absence of an assigned food service worker, ensure all dietary employee’s clean areas as required. Keeps the nutritionist informed of any issues, policy matters, employee conduct and of overall dietary matters. Maintains accurate documents as needed to ensure daily operations of the dietary department and as may be directed by the nutritionist. Covers shifts as needed. Maintains inventory of food and supplies through management of storerooms, refrigeration and purchasing practices, maintains inventory of supplements and snacks to have items on hand when needed by units for residents. May prepare and issue employee performance evaluations, prepare work schedules, comply with all policies, rules, and procedures, attend all required in-service and supervisory classes. Mandatory overtime is an essential function of this position. May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or the equivalent.
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in the area of assignment.
