    Position Summary:

    Center For Family Services has a full-time bilingual counselor position available for the Family Preservation Services (FPS) program. The position offers flexibility in hours and allows for a hybrid work week but client contact occurs in their homes and in the community. The FPS program provides short term, intensive, in-home, support and crisis intervention program for families located throughout Passaic County. Families who have children at risk of out-of-home placement or who have children scheduled for reunification are referred by DCP&P. The goals of FPS are to prevent the unnecessary out-of-home placement of child(ren), to improve family functioning, and to make linkages to community resources while working towards the child welfare outcomes of safety, well-being, permanency and stability of children and families.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    The FPS Counselor provides, within program objectives, a variety of direct counseling services using individual, family and group methods. They conduct comprehensive, strength-focused assessments and collaborate with family members and DCP&P in developing intervention goals and service plans. They utilize a full range of treatment/ intervention skills and techniques with an emphasis on crisis intervention and evaluates client's progress and modifies counseling services accordingly. The FPS Counselor advocates for and provides concrete goods and services (including transportation) that are directly related to the family's goals, while teaching family members to meet these needs on their own. They collaborate and advocate with formal and informal community resources and systems, while teaching family members to advocate for themselves. This individual maintains a caseload of 2-3 families and must be directly accessible to the families 24 hours a day/7 days a week and is on-call on a rotating schedule in the event of a crisis. Sessions are scheduled at times that are convenient for families, and when problems are likely to occur, including evenings, weekends and holidays, allowing for a hybrid and flexible work schedule. The FPS Counselor completes case records promptly. The FPS Counselor is comfortable working with children and families and must be reliable, dependable, creative and organized with excellent communication skills. They are skilled at home counseling, intensive case management, and crisis intervention.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor Required, BSW/MSW Preferred
    • Bilingual Spanish required
    • Two years experience providing case management and/or counseling
    • Current driver's license with a good driving record of at least three years
    • Vehicle with current insurance and registration
