Field Engineer - Construction delivers on-site technical oversight support to provide engineering guidance and monitoring for construction projects. Monitors construction progress and conducts daily site inspections to ensure work complies with time, budget, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Being a Field Engineer - Construction follows quality control procedures and inspection protocols to ensure that standards, designs, blueprints, and specifications are understood and followed. Troubleshoots technical issues that arise on-site and consult with architects, contractors, and supervisors to develop and implement solutions with minimal disruption to project schedules. Additionally, Field Engineer - Construction documents construction activities using logs, progress, and inspection reports and regularly updates status to project managers. Attends project meetings to provide technical input and present recommendations to improve construction processes. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Field Engineer - Construction work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     Position is responsible for monitoring multiple project activities, including inspections of major equipment received onsite, compliance with specifications, procedures, drawings, submittals and ensuring inspections and tests are qualified and complete.  Employee must develop a thorough understanding of the entire project scope and schedule. Train and mentor lower level inspectors in their respective duties and responsibilities as assigned.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    • Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
    • Inspect and ensure the quality of work performed during the daily activities of the overall construction on a large-scale wind, and solar projects.  Included but not limited to; roads, environmental (SWPP), excavations, concrete, rebar, substations, transmission lines, underground utilities and wind turbine installation
    • Determine that construction work is in conformance with the design documents
    • Review tests and inspection reports submitted by inspector. Identifying non-conforming results and coordinating a resolution
    • Develop and maintain: Material Tracking log, Project Test and Inspection list, Concrete and Grout log, and Non-Conformance log
    • Coordinate the packaging, review, and processing of submittals and RFIs to maintain project and procurement schedules
    • Ensure all materials associated with installation are in accordance with approved submittals and product data to ensure compliance with job site specifications
    • Perform basic to moderate surveying and necessary measuring to check line, grade and dimensions of roadway, and structural elements
    • Must plan and conduct daily activities in a highly organized manner to ensure all QC and QA data are properly and accurately recorded
    • On a daily basis monitor and record all work scope being executed and prepare a comprehensive Daily Report with measurement of daily quantities completed and resources utilized
    • Prevents deficiencies through pre-construction quality control inspection
    • Detects deficiencies and addressed deficiencies in a timely and effective manner
    • Effectively document approved field changes to incorporate in to red-line drawings
    • Coordinate and obtain required local, state, and federal permits
    • Work closely with the field engineering staff acting as their site representative ensuring construction complies with the QA/QC requirements
    • Interface with field superintendents to maintain an open line of communication and reporting monitor job progress, schedules and subcontractor performance and coordinate the operation of the field through management of field personnel
    • Compile all necessary information to create an operations and maintenance manual/file which will include subcontractor list with contacts and phone numbers and warranties and operation instructions for all components within the budget
    • Manage the inventory process as materials arrive to site: inspection, offload, receiving, and storage
    • Inspect the work, establish the final punch list and prepared the turnover documents
    • Manage and maintain production and extra work authorization log, identifying items and their resolutions
    • Prepared and distribute daily project updates to necessary parties (POD)
    • Capable of determining calibration status of measuring and test equipment
    • Interacts cross-functionally with other Field Engineers and project management
    • Develop and improving existing business processes to increase efficiency and standards of quality.
    • Assist Lead Field Engineer with obtaining pricing and executing purchase orders
    • Effectively interact with onsite owner representative, developing a professional working relationship to solve and discuss onsite issues

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or related degree and three to five years’ experience in related construction field
    • Or Associate degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology or related degree and five or more years’ experience in related construction field

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward The Company's Zero Injury principles
    • The Field engineer III must be a self-starter, be organized and have good interpersonal skills
    • Very good computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft word, excel, power point and outlook
    • Proficient in the use of computers and software packages needed to support the documentation, analysis and retention of quality records
    • Ability to coach, mentor and collaborate with staff at all levels to drive continuous improvement in safety, quality development, and process improvement
    • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills
    • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage multiple task independently
    • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies
    • Read, analyze and interpret blueprints, technical procedures and safety rules
    • Write daily reports and document project activities
    • Effectively manage field data to assure activities are conforming to corporate Quality Control procedures. Ensures the effective implementation of the quality control program for assigned project task
    • Ability to interact with all levels within the organization, client, subcontractors and suppliers in order to provide information necessary to obtain and complete a project
