Field Audit Manager - Seattle

    This Field Audit Manager position manages and is the subject matter expert for the Audit division’s Seattle area office. This Field Audit Manager position is the subject matter expert for tax administration, audit policies and procedures, excise tax rules and laws, taxpayer rights, agency responsibilities, management principles and personnel rules. The position is accountable for significant contributions (Multi-millions) of revenue to the state general fund, local governments, and dedicated accounts. The position also controls spending related to travel, training, supplies, and small equipment.

     Some additional functions of the job include:

    • Planning, developing, and implementing an audit program within a defined geographical area.
    • Evaluating projects and assignments to determine resource needs, based on complexity and experience levels of staff.
    • Monitoring status of in-progress assignments and providing assistance to staff to resolve complex issues.
    • Ensuring that all Audit assessments conform to the Quality Audit Standards set for fair and uniform application of tax law.
    • Assisting in the resolution of complex tax issues, including those where there is no precedent.
    • Assisting the Attorney General’s Office with discovery requests and trial preparations, including testifying as needed.
    • Directing and managing 10-15 professional and remotely located audit staff, including lead auditors (Revenue Auditor 3) and possibly expert Revenue Auditor 4 positions deployed throughout the geographically defined area.
    • May act as contract manager for independent contractors performing audits in geographical locations outside of Washington. 

    Please Note: The salary listed for this position does not include the 5% premium pay for positions based in King County.

    • Demonstrate technical aptitude in understanding and troubleshooting ATLAS adjustments

    • Be able to commute to the Seattle office to support employee development, facilitate team collaborations, and fulfill any operational needs.

    We're looking for candidates who have the following: 

    Bachelor's degree with major study in accounting or allied field which includes 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of college-level accounting (may include credits from one Business Law class)    

    AND

    Three (3) years of experience in professional accounting or auditing. This experience should include knowledge of the Washington Revenue Act of 1935, as amended; rules, policies and court decisions affecting the audit program, principles and procedures of accounting and auditing.

    Additional experience in tax administration, tax policy or in tax auditing may substitute year-for-year for the education requirement.

    Certified Public Accountant, Certified Managerial Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, or Certified Fraud Examiner is preferred.  

    We will also be looking for candidates who possess a working knowledge and full utilization of skills in management principles, communication techniques, personnel rules and regulations, direct and remote supervision, mentoring, coaching, team building, performance assessment and OFM travel regulations. We will be evaluating candidates for knowledge, skills, abilities, behaviors, and capacity for effective leadership that aligns with the culture of DOR.
