Finance Director directs an organization's financial policies, planning, reporting and controls. Oversees all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, risk, tax, and treasury. Being a Finance Director generally is the second most senior finance executive. Requires a master's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent. Additionally, Finance Director may require the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential. Typically reports to chief financial officer (CFO). The Finance Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Finance Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. The Finance Director serves on the senior management team to provide leadership in the area of finance and technology. Responsible for all financial processes, transaction accounting and reporting; payroll; the internal control system; preparation of financial forecasts and budgets; financial analysis and support of other staff members; and oversight of IT for the organization.
Certified Public Accountant or at a minimum a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, fiscal management, or a related field.
