Finance Director directs an organization's financial policies, planning, reporting and controls. Oversees all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, risk, tax, and treasury. Being a Finance Director generally is the second most senior finance executive. Requires a master's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent. Additionally, Finance Director may require the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential. Typically reports to chief financial officer (CFO). The Finance Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Finance Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. As the Finance Director, you will be responsible for supervising the accounting process and staff, which will include establishing and maintaining organizational structure and staffing as well as selecting, training and mentoring of accounting staff, as needed.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for timely, accurate and efficient accounting close on a monthly basis;
Manage the accounting functions on a day-to-day basis including invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, treasury management, procurement and general ledger accounting;
Enhance the accounting department's use of software for accounting processes and procedures;
Performs technical accounting issue research and resolution as necessary;
Assists the CEO and COO with preparation and completion of the fiscal year budgeting process, evaluates business unit performance against budget, and develops forecasts/reforecasts to provide an accurate projection of financial performance.
Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP;
Supervises the preparation of the monthly management financial reporting package, including variance analysis;
Reporting of operational data to key members of leadership team;
Manages the annual financial audit process performed by our independent CPA firm.
Develops, analyzes, documents and implements internal controls;
Develops, maintains and enhances accounting and finance policies, processes and procedures to comply with US GAAP.
Seeks opportunities to revise or create new policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting group.
Responsible for local, state, and federal tax compliance and reporting (including payroll, property and sales and use tax compliance and reporting).
Manages preparation of regulatory filings.
Manages debt covenant reporting.
Establishes and implements short and long-range accounting department goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
Manages projects and initiatives as assigned.
Additional Director of Finance duties as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required:
7 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience.
Proven working experience as a Director of Finance.
Experience in a government contracting environment.
Management experience building and leading accounting teams.
Flexible, willing to take on more responsibilities as needed, and devote time necessary to achieve deadlines.
Must have proven and extensive experience with Unanet and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and/or Access).
Strong communication skills and ability to multi-task.
BS in Business with a concentration in Accounting or Finance.
Preferred:
CPA preferred.
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
Auditing experience.
Compliance oriented.
Critical thinking and decision-making skills.

Travel – Occasional trips to HQ office in Sterling otherwise;
100% Remote
Monday through Friday, Normal business hours 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
