The Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County, Inc., is seeking applicants for our Executive Director position. The Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Monmouth County Bar Association. The Legal Aid Society's mission is to provide free lawyers to Monmouth County residents that meet with the income and case type requirements of the organization.
The Legal Aid Society screens indigent and disabled applicants to determine their eligibility, and then refers out the applicant to a Monmouth County attorney on a pro-bono basis. The Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County has been assisting qualified Monmouth County residents with pro-bono legal representation for over 50 years. Our reputation is well established in the Monmouth County community, and our past Executive Directors have established strong connections with local leaders in our local legal and business communities.
The Board of Trustees, which consists of experienced local attorneys and businesspeople, meets bi-monthly to review the status of the organization and receive a report from the Executive Director. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Trustees, and provides updates as to the status of cases interviewed and referred out for pro-bono representation.

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the other part time staff who work in the office, conducting interviews to ensure eligibility of an applicant, and overseeing the cases being referred. Responsibilities also include fundraising on behalf of the organization, and overall promotion of the Legal Aid Society.
The hours of the Executive Director are flexible part-time week day hours at our Ocean Twp. office working with our two part time administrative assistants.
Job duties include but are not limited to meeting with applicants, reviewing applicant's financial documents to determine qualification, preparing correspondence, preparing grant applications to various entities for financial support, minimal banking and tax filing responsibilities, attendance at Monmouth Bar Assoc. events and Legal Aid Society fundraising events, and attending Board of Trustee meetings with prepared reports approximately 6 times annually.
The Legal Aid Society Executive Director has traditionally been a practicing or retired attorney, but applications from other qualified individuals would be considered. Yearly salary will be discussed during the interview, but applicants should be mindful that this is a non-profit organization, and our primary mission is providing pro bono legal counsel for indigent and disabled Monmouth County Residents.
