Job Summary
Under administrative direction, perform analysis and development functions related to lease and software-based information technology arrangement accounting across entire University System, and year-end accounting activities; provide functional support in other University Accounting and Financial Reporting areas; and assist with the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for assigned areas of responsibility.
Duties & Responsibilities

Assist with maintaining and managing the main database for tracking leases and software-based information technology arrangements (SBITAs) across the Universities to facilitate the appropriate accounting treatment and financial reporting of leases in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) accounting and reporting requirements.
- Assist departments (system wide) and accounting staff on analyses and set up of new leases and SBITAs. Work with the various University units to execute the necessary steps of reviewing new contracts for possible leases and SBITAs. Assist with the recording of assets, liabilities, and deferred outflows/inflows, if applicable, by reviewing supporting documents, developing schedules, and creating entries.
- Assist with monitoring and analyzing lease and SBITA payments and rental receipts for lessor leases. Assist with developing reports and analyzing data using SQL queries, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Excel to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to payment and receipt schedules. Assist with reclassification of the interest portion of lease payments and lease receipts based on amortization schedules maintained in the lease accounting software.
- Assist with development of schedules to support the accounting and financial reporting requirements at year-end. Assist with posting interest revenue and expense accruals related to leases and SBITAs. Perform year-end adjustments for the lease receivables, lease liabilities, SBITA obligations, intangible assets, and related deferred inflows and outflows.
Perform other assigned duties appropriate for a Financial Accounting and Reporting Analyst position.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or a related field AND two (2) years of professional level accounting experience. OR Possession of current registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant, or a valid license to practice Public Accounting (LPA). OR Master's degree in Accountancy or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience working with external auditors and/or for public accounting firms
2. Experience with Banner Finance
3. Experience working with leases or similar arrangement

3. Demonstrated analytical skills to perform complex financial analysis of business transactions

4. Ability to produce complex financial reports and provide detailed information with accuracy and clarity

5. Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively present information and respond to requests for guidance and/or clarification

6. Ability to multi-task and produce accurate, detail-oriented work to meet stringent deadlines; creativity in problem-solving and exercising independent judgment and discretion

7. Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Access, Word and Outlook

8. Ability to work under pressure is required to perform a variety of responsibilities and ensure daily operational needs are met
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5000 - Accounting Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. Salary is commensurate with experience.
