Financial Reporting Director directs and oversees the preparation and distribution of all periodic financial statements for external use. Ensures that reports, filings and documentation complies with company's regulations, professional standards, and SEC and GAAP reporting guidelines. Being a Financial Reporting Director confirms that entries, transactions, and accounts are accurately and properly consolidated and are included in internal and external financial statements. Advises management of trends and changes in reporting requirements and recommends best approach for any changes in reporting. Additionally, Financial Reporting Director may serve as a liaison with or oversee the work of external auditors. May direct the preparation of materials for board or shareholders. Requires a bachelor's degree of Accounting or Finance. Typically reports to top management. The Financial Reporting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Financial Reporting Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Job Summary and Qualifications

    The Director of Financial Reporting (DFR) will be an integral part of the Finance Leadership Team to ensure Galen’s financial transparency, orchestrating strategic planning, analysis, and reporting. The DFR will be the key to ensuring Galen's financial health, going beyond to maintain the highest standards of financial integrity.

    This role demands innovation in maturing Galen’s Finance Department in reporting to its stakeholders.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist in the monthly General Ledger closing process in relationship to the preparation and review of management analysis for variances in revenue and expense reporting.
    • Develop, manage, and report month-end variance analysis and accounting close processes including Revenue and Expense reporting.
    • Lead and support Finance Officers in the ongoing maturity of cost center accounting as it relates to Galen’s campus financial statements, budgeting and forecasting processes and variance analysis.
    • Assist in Regulatory and any required SEC reporting (as it relates to HCA), including the preparation of financial statements, disclosures, and earnings releases.
    • Assist in the consolidation, review, and analysis of monthly/quarterly/annual financial data.
    • Assist the Finance Management Team in the review revenue recognition, non-cash charges / IT accounting processes, and compensation accounting to ensure compliance with GAAP.
    • Review actual performance against authorized spending (e.g., detailed expense review) at both the Corporate and Campus level.
    • Assist in general ledger and related financial reporting integration into current and/or new software applications.
    • Assist in maintaining effective internal financial controls in compliance with US GAAP, SOX policies and procedures, and all legal or statutory requirements.
    • Establish strong working relationships with the Finance Team, operational leadership, corporate teams, and internal/external auditors.
    • Recommend changes where appropriate to ensure compliance with SOX 404 requirements, U.S. GAAP, and general process improvements.
    • Dive into operational analysis of each business line as needed

    Results Responsible for:

    • Timely filing of all regulatory and HCA related reporting requirements.
    • Successful execution of an applicable financial reporting including financial analysis with monthly, quarterly, and annual close.
    • Timely and effective support with annual audit report filing requirements.
    • Profitability analysis on key business lines and other ad-hoc projects

    Required Skills & Experience:

    Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in preparing and interpreting financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
    • Familiarity with U.S. GAAP, IFRS, SEC regulations, and SOX compliance as applicable.
    • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, including the consolidation process and intercompany transactions.
    • Ability to conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and anomalies in financial data.
    • Proficiency in using financial software, ERP, and other related Academic systems.
    • Experience and understanding of the audit process and interacting with auditors.

    Soft Skills:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve financial discrepancies and anomalies.
    • Attention to detail for ensuring the accuracy of financial reports.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Ability to adapt to changes in regulatory requirements and company policies.
    • Openness to learn and update one's knowledge as financial reporting standards and practices evolve.

    Educational Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting (required).
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification (required).
    • Advanced degrees such as an MBA or a master’s in accounting or finance (preferred) but may be compensated with seasoned work experience in the job description above
