    Job Description Summary:

    The award-winning San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts is seeking an experienced educator to be responsible for leading the Education Department. The Curator oversees the schools, family, and adult programs.

    Curator of Education is responsible for engaging with the community and school districts to offer programs that satisfy the schools’ needs, supplement the schools’ curriculum and welcomes families to engage more deeply with the arts, and provides an array of opportunities for continuing education for adults.

    This position has direct engagement with the public and oversees the Education Studios in the beautiful Museum building. The position entails outreach with the San Angelo community and surrounding areas. The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts is a vital part of San Angelo, which boasts a vibrant arts community, an excellent quality of life, and wonderful people.

    A personable outgoing leader supervises a cohort of part time artists and educators, and summer staff that help organize and implement the adult, children’s and family programs, including summer camps, weekend events, night classes and studio offerings. The supervisory duties include hiring, training, overseeing, and evaluating the performance of the education team and administration of the two studios.

    The Curator of Education resume demonstrates at least two years of experience working in a museum or in art education and is enthusiastic leader with administrative and supervisory experience.

    The Curator of Education has a good disposition, works well in a team, and has excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Curator of Education is available to accommodate the Museum’s operating needs, helps advance the Museum’s mission, works well with and for a diverse community and stakeholders. The Curator of Education abides by the Museum Employee Handbook and Institutional Code of Ethics and Ethics Policy.

    The Curator of Education is responsible for engagement with the City of San Angelo and 18 surrounding counties on the Concho River Valley, and their school districts. This leadership position serves in the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts Education Department.

    Duties:

    · In consultation with the Director, develop and manage Museum education budget.

    · Recruit, train, evaluate, and oversee education staff and volunteers. Directly supervise the , Education Studio staff, and Docents.

    · Supervise the development of educational materials for special exhibitions, camps, workshops, and classes.

    · Oversees the docent program and school and group tours. Including exhibits interpretation.

    · Actively engages with school districts in the region for museum tours and educator outreach for those schools that cannot visit the Museum.

    · Oversee the open studio activities, adult and youth workshops, after school activities, Family Days, and Summer camps.

    · Oversee outreach to educators and the production of educational curriculum, including art boxes and other to-go projects.

    · Searches and writes grant proposals for the Education Department.

    · Create a visitor focused learning environment.

    · Must demonstrate initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness.

    · Collaborates with Museum staff from various departments to fulfill assigned duties.

    · Perform all duties using sound judgment and in a manner that promotes public confidence.

    · In a prompt, calm, and professional manner maintains a guest-first customer service approach, responding to visitors, Museum members, and board members inquiries, quickly, resolving any concerns, using best judgment.

    · Administrative responsibilities include maintaining supplies and materials for the Museum’s Education Studio and educational programs.

    · Performs all activities with the Museum’s highest ethical standards.

    · Regular attendance is an essential job duty for all Museum positions; including working hours that may include evenings and weekends.

    · Perform all other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    · Bachelor’s degree in education, art, museum studies, or related field.

    · Two years of experience working in a museum, library, cultural institution, school, or art studio. Three years of experience with supervisory capacity level in similar organizations may substitute degree.

    · Demonstrable basic knowledge of art and art history.

    · Basic administrative skills.

    · Knowledge of computers and Office software.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    · Master’s degree in education, art, museum studies, or related field

    · Three years of experience working in a museum, library, cultural institution, school, or art studio. Five years of experience at a supervisory capacity level in similar organizations may substitute degree.

    · Familiarity with School Texas Essential Knowledge Skills

    · One-year supervisory experience.

    · Experience leading tours and working with volunteers in a museum or other cultural or educational environment.

    Regular Work Schedule:

    • Monday Through Friday
    • 8:00 a.m. to 5: p.m.
    • One hour lunch break

    Salary:

    • $56,000 - $59,000. range

    Depending on qualifications
