Fire Fighter is responsible for rapid response to fires, accidents, and other emergencies to protect people, property, and the environment. Works with firefighting teams to control and extinguish fires and safely manage hazardous materials. Being a Fire Fighter performs search and rescue, responds to auto accidents, and provides emergency medical services. Uses and operates fire tools, equipment and apparatus as effectively and safely as possible. Additionally, Fire Fighter performs routine maintenance and inspection of firefighting equipment and gear to ensure proper condition and preparedness for emergencies. Prepares post-incident reports as required. May participate in fire safety education and inspection activities. Typically is required to pass periodic physical ability tests. May require registry in NREMT. May require an associate degree in fire science. Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Fire Fighter works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Performs fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical care and hazardous materials handling usually under emergency conditions. Responds to alarms and provides emergency medical service and transport, assists in suppression of fires including entry, rescue, ventilating and salvage work. Conducts fire scene investigation activities and fire inspections. Acts as community relations representative to the public. Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Shifts will be 8 to 24 hours in length. The City expects that all employees work a minimum number of hours per month and comply with all department training requirements (to be determined based on departmental needs). Starting rate of pay is $21.00 per hour with the possibility of bonus pay depending on the number of hours worked in a year (A part-time hire is not guaranteed future full-time employment.)
