Fire Inspector conducts inspections of new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with fire and safety codes. Prepares reports and issues violation documents. Being a Fire Inspector documents and defines actions needed to resolve non-compliance situations. Conducts fire investigations. Additionally, Fire Inspector has extensive knowledge of codes, ordinances, construction materials, and alarm systems. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science or equivalent. Has completed fire inspection training and may require the Certified Fire Inspector I (CFI) credential and applicable State License. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Fire Inspector is capable of working on complex problems and exceptions without direct supervision. Has a wide and comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of the job. The Division Chief of Wildland Fire manages the Big Sky Fire Department's wildland fire response,
prevention, and mitigation efforts under the general supervision of the Fire Chief or their designee. This
position is charged with implementing the tenets of the National Cohesive Strategy in the department
and community. This position develops and leads strategies to reduce wildfire risks and collaborates
closely with local, state, and federal agencies to enhance community resilience.
This position requires strong leadership, integrity, accountability, and the ability to collaborate
effectively. The Division Chief of Wildland Fire is critical in the Department's mission to protect lives and
property through prevention, education, and enforcement.
