GENERAL NATURE OF WORK
This is skilled and unskilled work in a variety of general entry level labor functions and operates basic automotive and power equipment. An employee in this class is responsible for the safe operation of equipment and tools used for performing the various construction and maintenance operations. Duties are performed under standard supervision.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIRMENTS

Graduate of a standard high school or the equivalency, supplemented by experience in performing road construction and maintenance; or any combination of training and experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities.

Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license prior to appointment in this classification and may be required to drive a licensed vehicle. Employee in this classification must furnish within 2 months of appointment that he or she holds a valid Class B Commercial driver's license.

Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.

Must be able to respond to emergencies and be on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
-
Must be able to lift (80) pounds or more to a height of four (4) feet or more.

Must be able to work extended periods of time using heavy duty powered hand tools such as chain saws, weed eaters, compaction equipment, jack hammers, etc. or to use hand tools such as hammers, shovels, rakes, etc.

Must be able to work extended hours in weather conditions which may range from extreme heat to extreme cold and which frequently may be inclement.

Must be able to work at heights of twenty (20) feet or more.

Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.

Eye sight must correctable to 20/20 vision.

Hearing must be within normal acceptable range of 20-25 with or without a hearing aid.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs duties associated with the County’s snow and ice policies.

Operates basic equipment such as, but not limited to bush hogs, chainsaws, chippers, jack hammers, mowing tractors, single axle truck (dump, flatbed, pickup), snow plow and salt spreaders, broom sweepers, and weed trimmers.

Performs a variety of general labor functions such as patching potholes, picking up litter, using chainsaws to trim trees and brush, install traffic signs, and serves as flagger during maintenance activities.

Attends required training classes.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
