Summary: Craig Technologies has an opening for a Flight Safety Engineer at VAFB, CA. This position will be supporting Launch Performance operations on the U.S. Air Force Space Command’s Space and Missile Systems Center’s Launch and Test Range System (LTRS) Integrated Support Contract (LISC).
Essential Functions
A focus on one or more of the following Systems Engineering Functional Areas (Testing, Requirements Analysis, Specialty Engineering, Systems Architecture) is expected
- Leads moderately complex projects or phases of significant projects; coordinates the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects
- Writes proposals to recommend process/programs and follows through on implementation
- Performs and evaluates cost analyses and vendor comparisons of software/hardware systems to ensure cost- effective and efficient operations and measures feasibility of various approaches and makes recommendations
- Analyzes potential systems investments and prepares supporting documentation for recommendation(s) to management and customers based on results of independent assessment of current and future performance, stability, interoperability and systems management/life cycle issues
- Prepares reports and presentations to communicate to internal team and customer
- Analyzes and resolves program support deficiencies and conducts testing to enhance performance
- Leads moderate to complex testing, troubleshooting and analysis on new and installed systems.
- Oversees development, implementation and maintenance test plans, procedures and reports to ensure requirements verification and compliance
- Leads and assigns team conducting testing, troubleshooting and analysis tasks on various systems including integration, systems testing, interoperability testing, field test plans and customer acceptance plans
- Leads design and requirements development/verification process
- Identifies system architecture needs and develop enterprise architecture items to be produced in support of assigned projects such as DODAF drawing generation
- Analyzes, decomposes and allocates requirements from the subsystem level down through the Configuration Item level to specific projects using DOORS including the development of requirement specifications
- Ensures the as-designed system requirements allocated to the project meet Human Factors and Safety Hazard requirements and develop associated analyses, as required
- Develops and implements training tools and documentation
- Position provides direct technical support for the 30 SW/SEAE Flight Safety Program Officer (FSPO) for launch critical RSS certification. Duties require critiquing proprietary technical procedures and reports resulting in comments and recommendation to 30 SW/SEAE for acceptance or rejection. Position also requires the ability to work closely with Senior Scientists and Engineers from a wide range of technical disciplines.

• Candidate must possess the demeanor necessary to represent 30 SW/SEAE in an exceptionally professional and responsible manner at all times. Work quality, dependability, and judgment to solve complex problems while at remote sites are crucial skills required for this position. Professional office dress attire is required as a Flight Safety Engineer. Candidate should be prepared to answer technical questions during the interview process.
• Upon hiring, successful completion of Global Positioning System (GPS) and Random Vibration/Shock Training courses will be required.
Required Experience
• Bachelor Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math or or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Eight (8) or more years of experience in systems engineering (Requirements, Test, Specialty Engineering, or Systems Architecture), related engineering, or STEM field
• A minimum of 5 years of Range Safety experience at VAFB is strongly desired.
• Experience working with Windows based computer systems, components, and Office tool suite
• Candidate with highly technical, hands-on experience preferred
• Experience working with design principles and applications
• Experience with Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) is preferred
• Experience with architecture documentation processes and tools such as DoDAF version 1.5 or 2.0 and System Architect (or equivalent tool) preferred
• Fundamental knowledge of the engineering lifecycle and systems engineering processes
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security clearance, which includes U.S. Citizenship or U.S. naturalization
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License required
