The Medical Assistant performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of the practice leadership team. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, registering patients, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, assisting with procedures, dressing changes, and administering medication as directed by physician/physician extender.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Those without formal Medical Assistant class-room training, but who have 3 or more years experience as a Medical Assistant will be considered a qualified applicant.
Understanding of medical terminology and pharmacology is required.
Must have working knowledge of computer/technology used in medical practice environment such as Microsoft Office, Electronic Medical Record and patient scheduling applications. Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinic staff. Ability to problem-solve.
Excellent customer service skills.
No previous record of patient abuse.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Active Medical Assistant (MA) certification, LPN license in the State of Michigan, RN license in State of Michigan, or valid RT(R) credentials.
MA certification should be from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Associations Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), and National Center for Competency Testing National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
BLS certification within three (3) months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's degree strongly preferred.
Minimum of 2 years experience working in a medical office setting is preferred for Specialty practices.
Training in EKG, POCT and Phlebotomy (may be required for specific practices and area needs) Active BLS certification.
