    As a Corporate Sr. Specialist, Food Safety you will provide food safety training, coaching and support to all retail, C-store (convenience stores of all formats) and RSCs (distribution centers) operations with respect to Giant Eagle policies, procedures and regulations relating to food safety.

    Job Description

    • Experience Required: 1 to 3 years work experience is a similar Food Safety position
    • Education Desired: Bachelors Degree in food safety, food science or related field
    • Certification or Licensing Required: Food Safety(RESH, CPFS, HASP or PCQI)
    • Travel Required: Regional - Daily, More than 50%; Regional across all retail and distribution centers - Overnight, less than 25%
    • Lifting Requirement: Up to 50 pounds


    Job Responsibilities
    • Act as a recognized resource and single point of contact for food safety related questions, regulatory related issues, emergency events and third-party audits.
    • Be available as a food safety subject matter expert to minimize risks that may lead to food borne illness outbreaks and to ensure compliance with regulatory and Giant Eagle requirements and standards.
    • Act as a liaison and active partner between corporate lines of business , C-store, retail, and RSC operations on matters such as the execution of food safety policies, processes, programs, tests and pilots, which serve to enhance the corporate food safety program.
    • Play a vital role in partnering with the stores and RSC's to ensure successful execution of these elements.
    • Act as a liaison between Team Members and health inspectors when necessary to ensure regulatory compliance and strengthen partnerships between the multiple Giant Eagle banners and the regulatory sector.
    • Serve as a test administrator/proctor for the Food Certification Manager Examination as scheduled by the Food Safety Department.
    • Perform review of pertinent documents (e.g., most recent scorecard, third-party audits, internal audits, customer complaints and incidents) to evaluate performance and corrective actions. Review and respond to results of completion reports, (e.g., Food Safety Theme, eLearning and food safety certification).
    • Serve as an active participant in the development of designated projects as assigned from the Corporate Food Safety Management Team. Play a vital role in developing a best-in-class food safety program through relationships with all vendor partners.
    • Perform training assessments along with regular food safety activities and assessments of all Giant Eagle banner locations to ensure conditions are in compliance with and training occurs on FDA, USDA, state and local regulations and company standards and policies.
    • Communicate results as directed and assist leadership in the development and implementation of effective corrective action plans.
    • Ensure appropriate follow-up actions have occurred on deficiencies found during assessments, customer complaints, incident investigations, third-party audits and regulatory inspections.
    • Direct or advise key leadership on appropriate follow-up and corrective/preventive action to deficiencies found during these events.
    • Partner with operations by providing direct support and follow-up for situations requiring emergency response such as store fires, power outages, boil water advisories, natural disasters, and other events as deemed necessary.
    • Deliver food safety and sanitation training during new store openings, major store remodels and newly assigned store and department leaders.
    • Conduct training to store leadership to ensure regulatory requirements are understood and maintained to reduce risks. Conduct training to support changes in food regulations, changes in SOPs or as necessary.
    • Through facility visits and training, ensure compliance with allergens and labeling by performing checks during assessments.
    • Participate as a trainer during annual food safety training events.
    • Perform effectiveness checks on recall events that pose a health risk
