    Marketing & Communications Coordinator

    Salary & Benefits: $19-$24/hr. DOE to start, 20% store discount, accrued paid time off, eligible for company benefits after 90 day.

    Hours: Full-time, approximately 30-40 hours per week.

    Job Summary: The Marketing & Owner Services Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the marketing, promotion, education, and outreach for Mariposa food Co-op. Manages MFC brand and MCF brand story. Works closely with the CEO and members of the management team to develop and implement strategic goals to grow sales and membership while upholding and furthering MFC’s mission and values. Conducts all work activities in a professional and confidential manner and in compliance with all applicable laws and MFC policies and practices. Exceed expectation for internal and external customers for service and provide a welcoming environment for all in accordance with MFC customer service standards. 


    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Advertising & Promotions

    • Work with the Grocery & Wellness Manager to implement NCG-sponsored promotions
    • Work with Buyers and Department Managers to identify and develop product promotions that will increase sales and appeal to our community
    • Communicate with Buyers and Managers about ideas gathered from the co-op’s social media as well as the social media content of other co-ops, vendors and other relevant industries in order to generate unique and enticing promotions ideas
    • Create promotional advertisements that coincides with the Co-op’s programs, in-store promotions and other promotional events
    • Coordinate in-store special events

    Social Media

    • Use social media platforms to publicize co-op deals, events, community focused donation drives/campaigns and relevant news on social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
    • Stay current with trends of multiple platforms & use analytics to evaluate efficacy of content
    • Produce automated content to ensure that Mariposa has a consistently engaging presence on social media
    • Responsible for administration and upkeep of co-op’s page on social media platforms
    • Exercise admin privileges to resolve or minimize inappropriate communications on the co-op’s pages
    • Create and establish social media content calendar in alignment with NCG promotional calendar and Mariposa’s internal programming and promotions
    • Collaborate with other Mariposa staff, as needed, to create compelling social media content

    Customer Service

    • Track customer comments from website, comment box, phone calls, general Mariposa email account and various online platforms and ensure timely response. 
    • Relay customer & member-owner comments, questions and requests to appropriate staff or department 
    • Willingness and ability to spend some time cashiering to connect with customers and assess needs in person

    Member-Owner Services 

    • Develop & maintain ownership materials and conduct periodic ownership drives
    • Manage ownership database in point of sale system 
    • Participate in the development and implementation of member benefits packages
    • Organize and participate in member-owner meetings
    • Organize and conduct periodic member-owner orientations 
    • Acts as Board Administrator at the direction of Cooperative Executive Officer
    • Work closely with the Board during Board election season to ensure member-owner engagement, participation and Board communication

    Community Relations

    • Work with and lead Mariposa’s staff-led Education & Outreach committee to support their marketing and communications needs for workshops, programming and events
    • Ensure that Mariposa’s social media presence amplifies the co-op’s commitment to anti-oppression, anti-racism, food justice, economic & environmental sustainability and the development of the cooperative movement
    • Use the promotional calendars of local and national cooperative associations such as NCG to schedule appealing and effective e-blasts regarding deals and sales as well as create additional e-blast content regarding new vendors, products. Co-op events and relevant community news; use analytics to monitor level of engagement with e-blasts and make data-informed decisions
    • Participate in the planning and execution of external co-op events such as but not limited to the Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll and Philly Grocery Co-op Day
    • Build and strengthen mutually beneficial partnerships with local businesses and organizations

    Website Maintenance

    • Update content of website as needed to ensure that all information is current, accurate and useful to visitors
    • Ensure that all changes to basic information is highly visible on all parts of the site
    • Post new blog entries regarding new products, community partnerships, co-op events, recipes, etc. to provide a variety of ways for shoppers to stay engaged with the co-op


    Requirements

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • 2 years  (5 strongly preferred) of professional experience in a position with the primary functions of marketing, communications, and/or design, ideally within a retail or community focused business or organization
    • 2 years experience managing multiple social media platforms to promote a business and its values in a consistent and effective manner
    • 2 years experience managing websites tailored to retail consumers
    • 2 years experience managing a marketing or advertising budget
    • Knowledge of all social media platforms; demonstrated inclination to continuously learn and engage with new social media trends and platforms
    • Fluent knowledge of Microsoft Office, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Analytics, Adobe Suite, Mailchimp and Squarespace; ability and eagerness to learn and use new programs
    • Broad and deep knowledge of Philadelphia’s journalist, publicity, advertising outlets, social justice and food justice networks, the city’s diverse food, wellness and sustainable lifestyle scenes; first hand knowledge of Mariposa’s local community is a significant plus!
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize time-sensitive tasks
    • Ability to write and generate content with a consistent “voice”
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; listens openly to others and can explain complicated ideas in a variety of ways
    • Demonstrated personal alignment with Mariposa’s commitment to social justice and community food access
    • Ability to focus in a friendly but productive office environment alongside 5-8 other people

    ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Knowledge and/or experience with co-operative business models
    • Previous experience working in a highly participatory democratic workplace
    • Experience working with member owned & supported business
    • Knowledge of or experience with regional food co-ops and/or regional natural foods supply chains

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Fine motor skills required to operate computers, printers, scanners, and other office equipment
    • Extended periods of sitting and computer usage are required daily
    • Must be able to climb stairs multiple times per day
    • Adjustable focus vision (with or without glasses) for reading detailed pricing information on screens or paper is a must. Ability to look at a computer screen for a large portion of the day
    • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed for organizing office files and equipment
    • Ability to wear a mask for extended periods of time
