Fraud Detection Supervisor supervises fraud detection associates in their effort to detect possible customer fraud. Leads cross-functional initiatives to proactively detect and prevent fraud from occurring. Being a Fraud Detection Supervisor researches, documents, and implements best practices in the industry with regard to fraud detection. Leads the most challenging and complex fraud investigations. Additionally, Fraud Detection Supervisor requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Fraud Detection Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. Thorough knowledge of department processes.     This position can be headquartered in Madison, Menomonee Falls, Eau Claire, or Appleton, depending on the preference of the selected candidate. This position allows for remote work a majority of the time but will need to report physically to their designated office location when business needs require.

    Position Summary


    Key responsibilities of this position include:

    • Investigating and resolving fraud cases, including known imposter investigations, employers or others aiding and abetting claimants in committing fraud, fictitious employers and identity theft investigations.
    • Applying knowledge of criminal investigation and prosecution, particularly of financial crimes.
    • Providing technical assistance to Unemployment Insurance Division management on investigative policy, techniques, and procedures.

    Salary Information


    Starting pay is between $62,400 and $68,640 per year, depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits.

    The classification title for this position is Regulatory Specialist (schedule 07, range 04). A 12-month probationary period will be required. This position is not represented in a collective bargaining unit and is considered non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

    Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.

    Job Details


    Travel: occasional travel is required, including some overnight stays.

    Remote work: Employees with approved remote work arrangements are generally expected to work within the state of Wisconsin. High-speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work. Remote work options are subject to change.

    Criminal histories: We also consider all qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law. Finalists for this position may be required to allow DWD to conduct a background check or other checks to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. For positions with access to sensitive federal tax information, FBI fingerprinting may also be required.

    Eligibility to work in United States: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e. a US citizen or national or a lawful permanent resident) at the time of appointment. DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

    Qualifications


    Qualifications marked with an asterisk (*) below will be evaluated in the first step of the selection process. Additional qualifications may be evaluated in subsequent steps.

    You will need to have experience:

    • Interviewing complainants, victims and suspects as part of an investigation, such as those done by police officers or detectives, Medicaid fraud investigators, consumer protection investigators, or other non-sworn investigative positions with the general public.
    • Using basic office software (such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, etc.) to perform tasks related to an investigation.
    • Analyzing facts or evidence and developing recommendation for further action or non-action related to a formal case or complaint.
  • Collaborating as part of a team and across organizational levels to accomplish a shared goal, requiring excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • It would be nice to have experience in any of the following:

    • Investigating financial crimes
    • Investigating identity fraud.
    • Analyzing fraud trends, schemes, and threats.
    • Analyzing digital evidence related to criminal fraud investigations.
