JOB SUMMARY
The core duties of the Crisis Line Counselor are to deliver Phone and/or Chat/Text support services to consumers who call the Crisis Line and provide skillful crisis counseling, suicide risk assessment, suicide intervention when needed, and appropriate referrals to other services and resources. We are hiring for full-time, on-site Counselors only for Third Shift at this time. Third Shift Options: 8p - 6a (4 days/week focused on Chat/Text) or 10p - 8a (4 days/week focused on phone).
We are hiring multiple Counselors for the next training group. The start date for paid training is Tuesday, May 21st and is conducted weekdays from 9a - 5p through July 5th.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answers calls/chat/text on incoming lines with compassion, in accordance with the organization’s training and scope*
- Engages in and completes federal, state, and SPCS ongoing required training which provides the skills necessary to support callers on the crisis line*
- Shows proficiency with all phone equipment, computer technology and software used by SPCS, in support of the caller*
- Utilizes reputable outside resources to refer the caller to additional support services in the community*
- Maintains appropriate documentation of each interaction with the caller through well- written, timely, and informative reports*
- Participates in SPCS meetings, workshops, networking events, elective continuing education offerings and SPCS social and community events, as appropriate
- Attends Crisis Line Counselor Training Meetings
- Develops and maintains positive and effective working relationships with other staff and volunteers at SPCS
- Attends supervision/debriefing meeting with management, as scheduled*
- Signs and abides by all aspects of the Crisis Line Counselor Guidebook, as part of the Job Description*
- Assists in maintaining a clean, safe, and confidential workspace
- Performs additional responsibilities as they develop and are assigned
This position requires working some holidays and some weekends.
