Underwriting attorney for Pre-Settlement Litigation Funding Company.
Candidates must be Licensed attorney in good standing with a minimum of 5 years of experience handling personal injury cases from intake to conclusion with emphasis on motor vehicle, premises, labor law, medical malpractice and wrongful arrest cases. Workers' Compensation or personal injury experience a plus.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity. Review case files and provide a risk assessment and case value, taking into account the anticipated risk involved, length of time to resolution, prior liens, potential repayment risks and any other relevant factors.
The role requires daily calls and/or email interaction with attorneys and paralegals regarding cases being underwritten for cash advances or advances for medical procedure.
You MUST HAVE PERSONAL INJURY EXPERIENCE to be considered for this role.
Responsibilities & Duties
Case review includes review of the handling attorney, venue, case facts and background searches
Additional online research, including Google and social media searches
Utilize a CRM database to enter underwriter reviews and enter advances
Attend underwriting meetings weekly to discuss cases as a team, and review prepared underwriter guidelines for specific case types
Other duties as assigned
Education, Skills & Requirements
Experience working with personal injury cases is required;
Juris doctorate degree with experience working as a plaintiff's personal injury attorney;
Ability to locate and review state court dockets and federal dockets on Pacer;
Experience with NY or Florida cases preferred;
Ability to assign venue-specific case values after appropriate training
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professional, quality legal work product
Highly effective project management skills with the ability to be self-directed to finalize case reviews
Ability to speak with attorneys regarding case facts and procedural historv, and to identifv key information and documents needed to finalize review.
