Job title: Fundraising Specialist
Reports to: Assistant Director
Work Location: Lansing, MI
Base work schedule: 40 hours per week, Full Time
Compensation: $21.38/hour plus benefits
General Responsibilities: Coordinates and has primary responsibility for fundraising events and activities and Agency projects as assigned. Maintains and grows community partnerships. Creates and maintains donor database, prepares acknowledgements. Leads Friends for Independence committee. Leads Agency grant writing team. Assists with marketing opportunities.

- Coordinates and organizes major fundraising events and activities. Performs tasks related to event planning, sponsorship solicitation and stewardship, raffle sales, and direct mail campaigns. Develops strategies to encourage new or increased contributions.
- Educates donors and sponsors on ways to support the Agency and maintains and initiates new relationships with funding partners.
- Creates and maintains all donor records. Processes donations and prepares acknowledgement letters.
- Maintains donor databases and generates fundraising reports as needed.
- Researches and identifies grant opportunities and serves as the primary grant writer.
- Serves as staff liaison for Friends for Independence. Coordinates meetings, prepares agendas and minutes, recruits new members.
- Coordinates the production of the Agency’s fundraising and promotional materials including design and layout. Organizes distribution through mail, email, and other media outlets.
- Assist with community outreach and program development.
- Responsible for monitoring and communicating state and federal guidelines and policies that impact donations.
- Assists with coordination of Quarterly Joint Providers' meetings.
- Represents the Agency at meetings as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Commitment to the organization’s missions and goals.
- Computer skills sufficient to learn specific departmental software programs. Ability to maintain confidential information regarding all aspects of participant, volunteer, employee, and agency information.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively and establish good relationships with staff, participants, volunteers, funders, and vendors, including strong writing skills. Ability to represent the Agency in a professional manner.
- Must be able to adjust priorities to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
- Ability to meet department standards with regard to job knowledge, participant focus, initiative, productivity, communication, teamwork, and attendance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required.
- 2-3 years of experience with fundraising activities is required.
- At least one year of Microsoft Office Suite experience is strongly preferred.
- Successful grant writing experience is strongly preferred.
Working Conditions:
- The work environment is a typical office setting with varying temperatures, conversational noise levels and everyday office activities.
- Safe work practices regarding use of office equipment, avoiding trips/falls and adhering to fire regulations are required.
- Physical mobility is required for sitting, walking, standing, bending, and lifting/holding/carrying objects of up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to enter and access information using a computer. Must be able to communicate effectively with participants, co-workers, funders, volunteers, and vendors in person, virtually and over the telephone.
- Mental requirements include the ability to handle varying levels of stress.
