We are actively recruiting for a maintenance position in either the MSW2, MSW3, or MSW4 classification depending on experience and qualifications.
As our Maintenance Service Worker you will preform a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction tasks in combination of several trades within the Facilities and Maintenance Department at the University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan. This is a 12 month/year permanent position. This position has an option to join Local 6070 Union. Your work schedule may include early mornings, evenings, nights and weekends.
To thrive in this role, the candidate should possess good interpersonal and communication skills to work in an environment involving a variety of diverse backgrounds and age levels. The candidate will have the skills to perform tasks in a safe manner following established practices, including custodial tasks such as bathroom cleaning and sanitation, cleaning of building floors, walls, ceilings, windows, and furniture when necessary, removing trash and hazards present in the building. The candidate will have the ability to use various hand tools such as mops, brushes, shovels, screwdrivers, plyers, ratchets/sockets, etc., and will use various power operated equipment such as carpet cleaners, floor buffers, snow and leaf blowers, mowers, weed whackers, saws, drills, etc. The candidate will also clean up potential biohazards and body fluids with appropriate disinfection material when required. The candidate will also have the ability to operate various equipment and vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications:
MSW II Minimum Qualifications
Under supervision, one year of relevant experience showing evidence of routinely performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and light construction duties in a combination of several trades or crafts such as plumbing; carpentry; painting; landscape and agricultural installation and maintenance; light construction; and equipment maintenance.
MSW III Minimum Qualifications
Meets MSWII Qualifications. Two years of relative experience showing evidence of independently performing qualifications of MSWII at higher skill levels, acting as a lead for other employees, scheduling and assigning work, with evidence of routine maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, physical structures, agricultural and landscaping projects.
MSW IV Minimum Qualifications
Meets MSWIII Qualifications. Three years relevant experience showing evidence of independently performing qualifications of MSWIII at higher skill levels, acting as a lead for other employees, routinely performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction tasks in a combination of several trades requiring less than journeyman skills in any one of the trades practiced.
A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required for all positions.
While not required, the following experiences and qualifications are highly desirable: demonstratable work history in positions of responsibility and trust, work experience in commercial building and facilities maintenance and custodial work at an apprentice level.

Salary Information:
