Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice. Albion College invites applications for the Counselor position. The Counselor is a member of the Albion College Office of Integrated Wellness staff, Student Development staff and the Office of Counseling Services and reports directly to the Director of Mental Health. The Counselor is responsible for administering a comprehensive student development program within a residential campus consistent with the philosophies and goals of Albion College, the Division of Student Development, and the Office of Counseling Services. The Counselor is responsible for programing, including crisis management, triage, direct services, group sessions, case management and conferencing, consultation with peer education programs, and providing services and programs that meet the needs of Albion College students. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload with sensitivity and confidentiality. Albion College is an anti-racist institution.
