Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice. Western Nebraska Community College is currently accepting applications for the position of Admissions Counselor.
Responsibilities:
Fully support and play an active role in all phases of the admission and enrollment management effort through student recruitment, assistance with applications and scholarships, and campus visits. Travel within the WNCC service area and surrounding states is required.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite required. Experience in a college or university setting preferred. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record that does not exclude the driver from coverage under WNCC’s vehicle insurance is required.
